Demand Open Investigation Of City Manager Incident

Move On…Nothing to See Here
Having seen the various articles about what looks like a massive attempt to cover up the incident involving the city manager by the Greensboro City Council with what appears to be assistance from the top city law enforcement officer, it makes one wonder, assuming it’s true, how long it will take the people, the taxpayers of Greensboro to actually rally and demand – demand – that an open investigation be done and, if necessary, appropriate action be taken.
Given the current situation, of their making it might be pointed out, the only way they can even begin to get some semblance of credibility is to put out a public statement admitting mistakes were made and that once the legal portion is resolved then take whatever action is appropriate depending on outcome.

Mebbe I don’t know the exact quote, as I didn’t enclose the statement with quote marks, but to me innocent is more accurate. Innocent people have been tried in the media, arrested, and jailed. Reputations and careers of innocent people have been destroyed.
If someone is arrested and tried, you could say presumed innocent, until convicted. Even then, some innocents have been found guilty, and served time.
Due process is our right.
When people are arrested on suspicion of committing a crime they are either guilty of doing it or innocent.
The presumption of innocence is granted to them in free countries, until they are proven guilty. That presumption is not necessarily true, because if they did the crime they have been guilty all along, ever since they committed the crime.
The presumption of innocence is not the same as actual innocence.

I won’t disagree with you Miller.
I’m waiting see IF that judgement comes about. Based on the existing track record I’m not going to be holding my breath waiting for it. And IF that judgement comes, and IF it is guilty, how light will the slap on the wrist be.
Please, surprise me so I can say I’m wrong.

Alan, the problem is DOA as far as city council is concerned. That’s how in works on Greensboro. Heck, in some jobs you can be charged with larceny and get a sabbatical.
I’m no fan of the City Manager or his ideology. However, some things need to be pointed out.
These “children” are legal adults who were at his home and had he not been the City Manager most likely no one would have known about this incident. He was the one with an injury that required treatment at the hospital which was inflicted on him by one of the daughters. Both daughters apparently had “minor injuries”.
People seem to be assuming that the City Manager was the one who did all the mayhem during this “Family Disorder” event, but having been involved personally with such disputes I’d caution you all concerning jumping to conclusions. It’s quite possible that he was not the one “killing/hitting” the two daughters but was defending himself from attack and in the process hurt, and when one daughter made the 911 call misleading information was given which was reinforced by the City Manager when questioned by police on their arrival to protect his daughters.
I know of a family dispute where kids were abusing a parent and the parent wouldn’t tell the officers the truth about what was happening in the home even after calling for help, nor the judge in order to protect the “boys”, even though the adult was physically hurt and emotionally intimidated.
It may be that the City Manager asked for this information to be quieted to protect his girls because he didn’t want to bring undue attention to them that would make their home situation even worse. I grant this may not be the situation, but until there is more factual information assuming he is the “bad guy” in all of this is completely unfair and not at all in line with our country’s system of innocent until proven guilty, which is an ideal we all would want if we were in his place.
It is extremely unusual for there to be a handwritten police report, and for there to be a redacted 911 CAD entry, since that is almost never ever done because it’s nearly impossible to go back and alter a CAD report after it’s entered. The call taker/dispatcher enters what they hear, then dispatch based on that information. There were at least two times the caller from the home hung up the phone on 911, once after calling, and after 911 called them back.
Having looked at the display of the call report that WXII showed on the news it seems that EMS staged until the police were on the scene and could be sure everyone was safe before entering the home and the total time emergency response was on the scene was about 50 minutes.
Just because we don’t agree with someone politically doesn’t mean they don’t deserve the same grace and rights under the law we afford others. Those are the ideals we have to stay true to if we are to save this country from corruption.
But the issue here is that he received SPECIAL treatment because he is a city official. The police chief reports to him so that makes the idea that the record of this event was kept in a manor to avoid public notice is dead wrong and now has brough even more attention to the situation. So he received better treatment that if this had happened to a regular citizen.

Did we just agree on something…??
Please forgive me foe being so financially ignorant. I just read about more school bonds being released to be sold. My questions are where are these bonds sold and who beside institutional buyers are allowed to purchase them? It would seem like local investors would be able to buy some of these bonds. I have lived in Greensboro NC all of my life(72years). I have never seen any bonds, local ,municipal,school,state,ever advertised in papers,through banks,savings and loans,and credit unions. I would think that our local leaders would want the great unwashed to buy some of these bonds. The bonds might get passed a little easier if some of us local yokes were able to benefit financially from these offerings. Maybe they could enact a local ordinance or a State law so that a certain share of bonds would be made available to the local population through the aforementioned financial institutions

Municipal bonds are never sold to the public by individual counties or cities. They sell them via the open market with contracts with large financial institutions for bids on the returns, etc. The days of “green stamps” is long gone. Why not ask a local investment company to explain it to you.
