Most people spend time reading their iPhones and iPads these days.

However, a lot of people still prefer the experience of having a real book in their hands the way people did in the old timey days. If you’re one of those people and need some new and very affordable reading material  – well, you’re in luck. The Friends of the High Point Public Library is hosting its 2024 Winter Book Sale on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24.

A “preview sale” is being held on Friday, Feb. 23, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; however, that sale is only for the members of the  Friends of the Library, who hopefully won’t scoop up all the good books that evening.

The general sale will be on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A bag sale will also be held from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. that same day.  During that sale, patrons can buy as many books as they can fit in a bag for $4 (The bags are provided).

Everyone planning to attend should note that the bag sale area will be cleared at 2:45 p.m. All items selected before then must be purchased at full price.

There will also be a special sale on pocket paperbacks on Friday night and on Saturday. During these sales, people can buy as many pocket paperbacks as they can fit in a brown paper bag for $10. (Bags are also provided at this sale).

All proceeds from the book sale go to support library programs. This year, the Friends of the Library are now accepting payment by credit card as well as cold hard cash.
