This is a letter to the editor from Rhino Times reader Austin Morris
Today Hillary Clinton called Donald Trump “a threat to the planet.” Apparently, he’s been promoted from merely “a threat to democracy.”
As Democratic women become ever more hysterical and unhinged in their rhetoric, they fail to see how ridiculous they are. But then, that is the defining characteristic of Leftists: they have a profound reality perception problem.
So as they threaten to eviscerate the Supreme Court, destroy the Electoral College, attempt to imprison their political opponent, and allow non-citizens and illegal immigrants to vote, they then proclaim that it is Donald Trump who is the “threat to democracy”. You can’t make this up.
The Democratic Party is gaslighting the whole country. Those far-left demagogues will say anything to satisfy their manic craving for power and control.
And with two assassination attempts on Donald Trump in as many months, maybe we should ask if they will also do anything to preserve their grip on power…
– Austin Morris
Well Trump does think Climate change is a conspiracy theory from China and therefore not real and he wants to dismantle the EPA so, while Clinton is irrelevant from a global leadership perspective (odd anyone listeners to her), Trump is a threat to the planet in that perspective and is a big reason I would never vote for him.
Trump continues to spread his lies and misinformation about the 2020 election in the face of every accusation being debunked, fact checked and tossed out of court. He calls Jan 6th rioters who disrupted the peaceful transfer of power hero’s and celebrates their actions of that day. He claims if he loses the election that there will be blood in the streets without any remorse for that prediction. So yup, he is a threat to democracy….as he has brainwashed his followers who keep their heads isolated in conservative news circles since they believe any contradictory news Fake News because Trump said so…. Remember, the first sign you are in a cult is you are told everyone else is lying.
So if the label fits.
Your turn, justify how Democrats hate America and are Destroying America as Trump claims daily in his speeches.
Or how can you say to your neighbor, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye’ while the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor’s eye.” (Matthew 7:3-5).
Writing letters about how Democrats use over the topic rhetoric while ignoring your own over the top rhetoric, is just silly.
But you be you.
Get a life, buddy.
And please… do try to improve your Pidgin English.
It just makes you look stupid.
Yet again, all Austin has is personal attacks. Guess he can’t read with the log in his eye.
You earned it.
– “In the strict sense, the 97% consensus is false, even when limited to climate scientists. The 2016 Cook review found the consensus to be “shared by 90%–100% of publishing climate scientists.” One survey found it to be 84%. Continuing to claim 97% support is deceptive. I find the 97% consensus of climate scientists to be overstated.” (Forbes, Earl J. Ritchie, Lecturer, Department of Construction Management, Updated Dec 10, 2021, 09:42am EST)
(Many factors cause global temperature changes, not just issues that EPA rules will solve. In the research study cited above, and the ones used in the study, most did not support the conclusion that humans were responsible for “climate change”. Factors that are usually not considered when discussing this issue are, “Strength of the Sun, Changes in the Earth’s orbit, axial tilt and precession, Quantity of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, Ocean currents and carbon dioxide content, Plate tectonics and volcanic eruptions, Changes in land cover, Meteorite impacts.” (What Causes the Earth’s Climate to Change? It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country. That’ll be the least of it.” (By Arit John, Kit Maher and Alayna Treene, CNN, Published 12:12 AM EDT, Sun March 17, 2024)

Free Speech
– “In an Aug. 4 blog post, Macon Phillips, director of new media at the White House, lamented…rumors… via e-mails or…casual conversations…Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. Trump is Hitler/Nazi
– “Donald Trump told Republican donors at his Florida resort this weekend that President Joe Biden is running a “Gestapo administration,” the latest example of the former president employing the language of Nazi Germany in his campaign rhetoric.” (PBS, Politics May 6, 2024 12:29 PM EDT)

It is language that is meant to divide us,” Harris said. “It is language that I think people have rightly found similar to the language of Hitler.” (Washington Examiner, by

End of Democracy

– “…as the fight to preserve American democracy takes another dark turn: Those of us who believe in the core tenets of liberal democracy and the American experiment can’t prematurely surrender to the worst impulses and machinations of those who want to destroy it.” (MSNBC, By Chris Hayes, July 3, 2024, 5:40 PM EDT)
– “Democrats rightly point out that democracy is on the ballot in an election in which Republican nominee Donald Trump threatens to be a “dictator” for a day and claims he has the power to suspend the Constitution…We should not be surprised that the Republican Party has drifted into anti-intellectualism, contempt for higher learning and racist hogwash…not coincidentally tracking Republicans’ descent into authoritarianism. “Authoritarians are always threatened by fact-based knowledge,” historian Ruth Ben-Ghiat explained during a 2021 interview. “The facts are their enemy. Propaganda means that you have to create an alternate reality that your believers will follow, and research based on science and scientific method becomes the enemy.” (Opinion – For only the second time, a top science magazine endorses for president, By Jennifer Rubin, September 19, 2024 at 7:45 a.m. EDT)
I personally don’t like either candidate and am an unaffiliated voter. I will be voting in this election as I do in every election. I didn’t like your challenge, Chris, “Your turn, justify how Democrats hate America and are Destroying America”, because I do believe that progressive liberal Democrats are set on fundamentally changing this country. Their goal is globalization, as they will show next week when voting in agreement with the UN and WHO “pandemic treaty” which is “a vision for building greater equity and effectiveness in pandemic prevention, preparedness and response across the globe through international cooperation”(“…Nowhere in the 30-page document are…mentions of specific citizen surveillance systems…while the treaty…would be considered a legally-binding document, there are effectively no legal consequences for signatories who fail to adhere to it or violate its terms…The WHO has no enforcement power…other than largely symbolic actions akin to an international “slap on the wrist…Most of the treaty language is framed as things the signatories “should” do, rather than “must” do…Freedman also emphasized that the draft does not use “mandatory language,” but rather encouragements or recommendations.” {I think I’ve heard this before} (AP, AP Fact Check WHO ‘pandemic treaty’ draft doesn’t sign over US sovereignty, By Sophia Tulp, Published 2:45 PM EDT, February 24, 2023)
I think both sides use propaganda to advance their views. Both sides have cliques, have followers who keep their heads isolated in their respective news circles media that continues to spread lies and distort the truth. It’s the game of politics that some people take far too seriously, especially in a social culture that’s lost respect and decorum.
As you said, remember, the first sign you are in a cult is you are told everyone else is lying. There is truth on both sides, just as there is lying. You need to look at the information given that fact checks some of what those who are conservative say. I’ve tried to give sources from what is generally considered “liberal media” so you don’t think I was choosing “conservative news circles, contradictory news Fake News” to lie about the points I was making.
I honestly think that you, Chris, Austin, Alan Marshall, and I should meet someday for coffee or tea and chat. I believe that meeting in person and talking would find we have more in common than not, and it’s much more simple than typing a discussion. This crap took me over 8 hours to compile and I’ve used up all my 2 free articles/month allotment of liberal/moderate/conservative media.
I was me.
Thanks, Deborah.
I’m glad you see the existential threat posed to this country by the Left, but a little dismayed that you do not endorse the Right. Democracy is a very crude mechanism in that it always devolves to a binary decision.
I hope you realise that we’re not electing a Pope, and that you can bring yourself to vote for Trump, warts and all.
Doubling my grocery bill is a good place to start.
You act like him questioning the 2020 election is the worst thing in the world. How about what Dems did with Russia collusion, the Steele dossier, and all that nonsense that did nothing but try to prevent him from doing his job during his first term. Go back and look at all of the politicians and media doing everything in their power to delegitimize a duly elected president. Hypocrite.
Trump didn”t question the 2020 election. He refused to accept the results even after all his court cases were tossed out, his friends have gone bankrupt and lost their law licenses, his biased new media support fined 100s of millions of dollars, etc.. etc… etc… His refusal to accept truth over his conspiracy theories because his ego is so fragile is an embarrassment to this country and danger to democracy given how his followers believe his every word regardless of facts or evidence.
Investigations like Russia collusion par for the course sadly. Like the Hunter Biden investigation, the investigation into Biden corruption…none of which led to any prosecutions due to lack of any real evidence just like the Russian collusion business. At least the lack of evidence shut down those stories unlike Trump and his false claim of mass 2020 election fraud there is no real consideration of facts or evidence by Trump. Just lies and conspiracy theories.
Lack of evidence on Hunter Biden?! Hunter was influence peddling, human trafficking, and a drug user to the highest degree. And this idiot put it all on video, emails, and WhatsApp. Any normal person would have been arrested. Biden has been in office for over 50 years and made government pay. Somehow they are able to support ex wives, grandchildren ect with multiple houses.
There was never a question about drugs. It isn’t illegal to leverage family connections for work. There was never any evidence that he sold and share income for giving political favors beyond Biden saying he on the phone. If there was evidence why didn’t the committee find and press for prosecution. Lol
Another point….when did inflation start to spike? Hmmmm…..maybe Trump’s policies started it spike given it started in April before Biden had just gotten settled into office. Hmmmm….
.
Appreciate the engagement in civil debate as always Deborah. I will address your points in single comments so other can pipe in (hopefully as civilly as yourself) on individual topics>
CLIMATE CHANGE:
Even by your findings, the vast majority of science in agreement on climate change. Not sure why you include a comment from a guy from Department of Construction Management? Construction and Environmentalists have always had a confrontational relationship. If I recall correctly, Earl J. Ritchie is a retired energy executive and teaches a course on the oil and gas industry at the University of Houston. Big Oil funds a great deal of anti-climate change studies for reasons you can imagine. Even if correct, 90% is still the Vast Majority of climate science. If you have any sources not from the oil and gas industry who have trillions of dollars a risk if we greatly reduce use of fossil fuels, please share.
Yes, all major climate models include natural sources of climate variation so not sure where you are getting information that current models ignore natural sources of climate variation. Who do you think discovered those natural sources of climate variation? Climate scientists. Who by the way, the vast majority support the idea that the majority of climate change is directly or indirectly a result of our overuse of fossil fuels. The European Commission’s study estimates: Natural causes, such as changes in solar radiation or volcanic activity are estimated to have contributed less than plus or minus 0.1°C to total warming between 1890 and 2010.
If I have to ignore 90%+ of scientists to support a political agenda, I am being conned. I prefer candidates who trust experts in their field versus large scale conspiracy theories.
Hillary lost fair and square. Sure the hack of her email server (US intelligence said by Russia but Trump accepted Putin saying “Na Uh” over the word of his own intelligence leadership) was bad for Cliton but it’s not like they faked the information that was shared. Too bad for Hilliary. But at least she didn’t attempt to claim that the entire US voting system that enables our Democracy was corrupted and fraudulent to sooth her ego for losing. I am not sure this is anywhere as close a drama queen situation as Trump’s reaction to losing. I didn’t vote for Hilliary and never understood why the DNC supported her so strongly.
“Rep. Maxine Waters calling for protestors to stay in the street and to be more confrontational is the power of free speech in use. Reckless for sure as too many protests turned into Riots throughout the BLM protest movement. But note the majority of protests where peaceful….CCC is a public access database that tracks protest activity in the United States. In CCC data collected from May 2020 to June 2021, 94% of BLM protests involved no participant arrests, 97.9% involved no participant injuries, 98.6% involved no injuries to police, and 96.7% involved no property damage.
i hear the rant that why weren’t more Antifa rioters arrested to the level of the Capitol rioters? Simple, they didn’t film themselves and post their illegal actions online. In addition, but the it was the Capitol building, the FBI directed the investigation versus BLM which were investigated by local police investigators who lack near the tools and skills of the FBI. So, next time, cover your face, don’t film yourself, and don’t post it on social media…..and you have a much better chance of not getting arrested.
Bloodbath Comment
All fact checkers I am aware of debunked the civil unrest interpretation of his quote. So shows good balance in fact checking (a tool I reference a good when reading conservative news sources and listening to modern conservatives take on events). Funny conservatives seem to only support fact checking when it fits their ‘version of the truth” as if there is more than one version of the truth.
Trump has developed a very award style of speech that is very non-linear and disjointed in it’s flow. (I assume it is likely a result of his aging mental challenges as he used to be amazing in his ability to speak off-the-cuff.) You can see how easy he made it to read a negative spin on his own words: “Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s gonna be the least of it. It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country.” Note, he didn’t say the auto industry. He said the country.
Even in the full context it leaves a lot to be interpreted ” No, we’re going to put a 100% tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you’re not going to be able to sell those cars if I get elected. Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s going to be the least of it, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the country, that’ll be the least of it. But they’re not going to sell those cars, they’re building massive factories.”
If he doesn’t like his word to be misread, maybe he should try to speak more clearly and more directly when giving speeches. Maybe even prepare his speeches versus speaking off-the-cuff as he clearly is unable to do it nearly as well as he did in 2016.
While we are here. Trump has been claiming since 2020 that if he isn’t elected that the “economy will collapse”, “stock market will crash”, and “we will face a depression like we have never experienced before”. (I am paraphrasing). Just so we are clear. It didn’t happen when he lost in 2020 (we have strong macro-economic numbers and have recovered far better from the global inflation caused by the pandemic and Trump/Biden over spending on recovery projects) and it won’t happen when he losers in 2024.
Free Speech:
Biden wanting to stop the misinformation surrounding Covid19 was in the interest of public health. It is perfectly legal for private companies to edit/censure information posted on their technology. It is also not illegal for government officials to champion the idea of private companies editing/censoring misinformation and hate speech. It is wrong to pass laws to restrict free speech or mandate private companies restrict free speech against their will. Neither of which did the Biden admiration attempt to due. NOTE that conservative media sides are just as aggressive if not more aggressive in editing/censoring free speech on their platforms. Including Trumps social media platform and X under the personal direction of Musk. I don’t claim about it. I just use a different site. Not complicated.
I am a strong believer that misinformation and hate speech should be censored on private social media platforms as it is a big part of what is driving a wedge down the middle of this great country. But I also am a strong believer that the government should stay out of the process and let the economics of private industry solve the problem as it is with X and Trump’s social media platform. Private business isn’t going to advertise on platforms that allow hate speech and misinformation as it is bad for business.
I agree no books should be banned from libraries. Conservatives seem to have made this a major goal to limit access to any topics that make them uncomfortable. Same goes for liberals and NAACP. But to claim as a whole that Democrats hate free speech is as silly as saying conservatives hate free speech.
Conservatives have been the ones banning books from libraries. We all know conservative parents (especially religious ones) who cannot tolerate their kids having different opinions. Conservative social media sites are just as prone to banning someone for having opposing views as liberal ones. Conservatives were the ones who got outraged about athletes kneeling during the national anthem, as if that gesture weren’t quintessential free speech. When Elon Musk took over Twitter, he promptly banned many users who disagreed with him. Conservatives have been trying to pass “don’t say gay” and “stop woke” legislation in Florida and elsewhere (and also anti-BDS legislation in Texas to penalize those who oppose Israel). For every anecdote about a liberal trying to quite a voice for being conservative, you can find an equal example on the reverse side. That’s just human nature.
Key is attempting to break down the pillars of legal protections found in our constitution. For example, Trump recently vowed ‘restrict the First Amendment” by making burning an American flag punishable by prison time. A topic long addressed by SCOTUS as free speech. He has a number of occasions, while in office, threaten to revoke broadcast licenses of news media companies that ran stories with a negative spin on his administration.
End of Democracy
This is an easy one. Trump refused to admit defeat even to this day by claiming mass fraud (ballot stuffing, illegal’s voting etc…) without any valid evidence. To illustrate that he doesn’t care if his assumptions of fraud aren’t true, he continually repeats accusations long after they were debunked. The best example is the lie that GA election officials (to paraphrase) ‘pulled a box of fake ballots out from under a table to run through the counting machines after hours’. A perfectly reasonable explanation is available yet he continue to claim ‘they’ cheated to the point that his followers sent a stream of threats of violence to the innocent men and women who dedicated to public service within the American election system. Pathetic and the most anti-democratic action taken by a sitting President….that is until Jan 6th.
Trump’s ongoing rhetoric about mass fraud ‘stealing the election’ from him (even though he had no valid evidence other than he lost when he didn’t want to lose) riled up a mob of HIS followers to storm the capitol and use violence to break though the capitol guards in a poorly thought-out attempt to stop the peaceful transfer of power for the first time in the history of the United States. At the time, Trump refused for over 3 hours to publicly call for his followers to stop and restore order. At first, he attempted to blame Antifa bad actors but when it was discovered that these insurrectionists posted video of themselves online, it was easy to track them down and bring them to court where it was very clear that Trump was lying about his Antifa conspiracy theory given his lack of interest in truth and facts. AND NOW we wants to celebrate these insurrectionists as hero’s.
My father voted conservative in every election he was allowed during his 82 years. He was going to just leave the ticket blank for president on his ballot until Trump wanted to call these people heroes. So, for the first time in his life, he will vote Democrat for President of the United State of America. I feel the exact same way. I just figured it out faster than he did in 2020.
I can’t think of anything anti-democratic done by Democrats to even come close to Trumps actions as a result of him losing the 2020 election.
Destroying America
I really struggled to follow your logic in this section of your argument. I think you were saying globalization bad?
Calling globalization, a destruction of America is a very dated concept and really not valid. Conservatives ushered in the concept of a global economy as they knew as more countries developed their manufacturing capacity with the use of low-cost labor that the United States would no longer be able to dominate the market as we did when the rest of the world’s manufacturing capacity was destroyed during WWII. The concept of a global economy is fully entrenched in our system and there is no going back. It was never a viable option to avoid. The manufacturing advantage we had was never anything but temporary.
In terms of coordinating pandemic, climate change etc… via general agreements with other nations. I think it makes perfect sense. They can never be legally binding as our legal systems are far to different and too big a risk of political negative use of courts would clearly be an issue.
I need more clarity your point here.
I have no interest in sharing a beer with anyone who hears a fact from a valid source and simply cries ‘fake news’ or liar liar because it doesn’t fit their personal point of view. I believe in facts from only reliable sources that have specialize experience and knowledge on a subject. I believe in fact checking. To a point I am happy to admit when I have made a mistake. Until Alan and Austin are willing to do the same, i will pass on sharing a beer.
I’m just chiming in to say that I appreciate that no one has bothered to reply to Chris’s various and vacuous responses. Good job everyone.
I fully understand that reading isn’t a skill set that conservatives value. I will write in crayon next time to make it easier for the crowd that normally hangs here.
The poor loser has WAYYY too much time on his hands.
Like I said, he needs to get a life.
He began his series of comments at 1.52pm on Sep. 21st and submitted his last one in that thread at 5.22pm the same day.
He spent all afternoon (three and a half hours) plucking away at his keyboard… presumably to “win” some imaginary little battle in his brain.
Chris is a pitiful little person who really, really, needs to get a life.
