Greensboro Parks and Recreation wants people to become familiar with their neighborhood parks and is putting their money where their mouth is.
The Parks and Recreation Department is giving away $800 worth of prizes in its Discover Your Park contest.
Beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 6, Parks and Recreation staff will hide a Piedmont Discovery logo, (like the one above) in two different neighborhood parks each week for four weeks.
Signs posted near the parks will provide clues about where the logos area hidden. For more clues you can download the Piedmont Discovery Mobile app by clicking here: Piedmont Discovery App
When you find the Piedmont Discovery App logo, along with it you will find instructions on how to enter a drawing for a prize.
The contest is open to Greensboro residents who are 13 and older. Entrants from each park will be entered into a drawing for a $50 Visa gift card. A total of 16 gift cards will be given away, but you can only win one.
The Discover Your Park contest is being funded by a $1,500 North Carolina Recreation and Park Association Diversity, Equity and Inclusion grant. Funded by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation, the grants are designed to help ensure equal access to parks for all members of the community.
In July, the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department held a somewhat similar contest in celebration of National Parks and Recreation month.
In that contest the signs were “hidden” in plain sight.
During the COVID-19 shutdown and under Phase 1and Phase 2 of Gov. Roy Cooper’s reopening plan, the playgrounds and basketball courts at neighborhood parks were closed. However, the playgrounds and basketball courts were reopened under Phase 2.5, which went into effect on Sept. 8. Many of the recreation centers were also reopened on a limited basis under Phase 2.5.
