On Wednesday, Feb. 23, the City of High Point sent out public notice that it’s seeking input from residents as to how the city should spend some money in its upcoming 2022-2023 budget.
The city gave notice that it will hold virtual public meetings on Friday, March 4 at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m. to get information regarding the city’s “Annual Action Plan.”
The input is for the coming fiscal year, which starts on July 1, 2022 and runs through June 30, 2023.
According to the February 23 announcement of the meetings, the goal is “to solicit the views and comments of individuals and organizations concerning the needs in our community.”
The city anticipates that it may receive a Community Development Block Grant entitlement award of an estimated $940,000, as well as a HOME entitlement grant in the amount of $545,000 for the upcoming fiscal year.
As part of the application process for those, High Point is giving residents and local community groups, as well as any other interested parties, the opportunity to take part in the planning process.
Those interested are being asked to join the virtual public meetings and offer their ideas about High Point’s needs and the best use of those grant funds.
Those who wish to take the city up on the offer can participate using the following link: www.HighPointNC.gov/VirtualPublicMeeting.

How about reduce the budget, spend less money, and lower taxes? If there were some really pressing need for the city to do something, build something or buy something, it should have already been done, built or bought. That the city is trying to find something to spend money on shows that the city government is irresponsible and profligate.
I’m not in a position to “grant” anyone anything. So can I just have my share of this extorted money back? You could lower the property tax rate???
Given that this is federal money, your share would be a small fraction of 1 cent. You want that in check or coin?
Satisfaction will do. My point is govt waste. Extort money from the taxpayer, and give it to someone who you think may vote for you.
