This year it’s obvious why Greensboro is known as Tournament Town.

Next week, the first of three major college basketball tournaments at the Greensboro Coliseum kicks off with the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The Women’s ACC tournament starts Wednesday, March 1, with the championship on Sunday, March 5. This is the 23rd year the Greensboro Coliseum has hosted the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The New York Life ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament starts Tuesday, March 7 with the championship played on Sunday, March 12.  This is the 29th time the Greensboro Coliseum has hosted the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament and that’s more than any other venue.

Tickets for the Men’s ACC Tournament go on sale Monday, Feb. 27 at 10 a.m.  All seating for the first day of the tournament Tuesday, March 7 is general admission.  All other days are reserved seating.

Even if you don’t purchase a ticket, you can enjoy ACC FanFest at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center for both ACC tournaments.  FanFest includes interactive games, rides, historical exhibits, entertainment, merchandise, food, drink and more.  Admission to ACC FanFest is free.

Also on Monday, Feb. 27 and Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 8 p.m., there will be a Community Tip-Off Party at Piedmont Hall at 2409 Gate City Blvd.  Live music will be provided by The Plaids.  You’ll have a chance to meet the ACC mascots and enjoy free food.

The Greensboro Coliseum is also hosing Rounds 1 and 2 of the NCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Tournament on Friday, March 17 and Sunday, March 18.  This is the 13th time the Greensboro Coliseum has hosted the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

You don’t have to go to the Coliseum to enjoy some of the celebration of March Madness.  As part of Tournament Town Goes Downtown, Downtown Greensboro Inc. is hosting a free concert on Saturday, March 11 featuring The Breakfast Club.

The concert is free and will be from 1 to 5 p.m. on North Greene Street between Friendly Avenue and West Market Street.

Then, on Saturday, March 18, the Tournament Town Block Party will feature Michael Ray.  Admission is free with the gates opening at 3 p.m. and Michael Ray will take the stage in Hamburger Square at about 6 p.m.
