The traditional celebration of our nation’s birthday on Tuesday, July 4 is a week away and Downtown Greensboro Inc. (DGI) has announced the schedule of events for the Fun Fourth Freedom Fest in downtown Greensboro.
The festival will be held in downtown Greensboro from 1 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4. While the festival is always called Fun Fourth, some years it isn’t held on the Fourth, but this year it is.
DGI depends on a large number of volunteers to hold the free festival and could use a few more. If you would like to volunteer, you can sign up at https://www.downtowngreensboro.org/fun-fourth-festival/volunteer/
The annual Fun Fourth Freedom Run will be held on the morning of Tuesday, July 4, before the Freedom Fest in the afternoon. The Freedom Run, the area’s longest running race tradition, begins at 7:30 a.m. for the 10K; 8 a.m. for the 5K; and 8:05 for the 1 Mile Fun Run. All races begin and end at 211 N. Davie St. next to Center City Park.
However, if you can’t make it to Center City Park on July 4, you can register to make a virtual run at the time and place of your choosing.
Thanks to a sponsorship from Silver Airways and the Piedmont Triad International Airport, the top two finishers in each race will receive a roundtrip ticket with Silver.
The Freedom Fest will feature four zones along South Elm Street with a stage for each zone.
Zone 1 is from Market Street to February One Place and features to Rhythm, Stars & Stripes Stage.
Zone 2 is from February One Place to Washington Street.
Zone 3 is from Washington Street to Smothers Place.
Zone 4 is from Smothers Place to Lewis Street.
New attractions this year include a 28-foot climbing wall, a massive water play area and more interactive attractions than ever.
The BORO social district will be active during the festival, so people can purchase alcoholic beverages from any of the participating businesses and take them outside, as long as they remain in The BORO district.
Fireworks will once again be held following the Greensboro Grasshoppers game at First National Bank Field. To view the fireworks from inside the stadium, tickets to the Grasshoppers game must be purchased in advance.
We will not be celebrating the Fourth here, especially downtown; but one place where our Republic means a lot to people – NMB.
Keep ‘em locked and loaded.
