Those who don’t frequent downtown Greensboro seem to constantly be worried about parking.

If you fit into this category then Saturday, Dec. 21 and Sunday, Dec. 22 are days that should be ideal for your downtown shopping, dining or wandering around trip because Downtown Greensboro Inc. is providing free valet parking from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All you have to do to take advantage of this offer is pull up in front of Elm Street Center at 203 S. Elm St. and your car will be taken care of, as long as you remember to return before 5 p.m. when the free service ends.

DGI President Zack Matheny said, “If you still have some holiday shopping to do, head downtown this Saturday or Sunday, valet your car for free and find those unique gift items offered by our local retailers. Enjoy delicious food and drinks from our restaurants – make this your weekend destination. When you come downtown, you’re not just supporting local business owners, you’re supporting your neighbors. The dollars you spend stay in our community.”

Matheny added that this is an idea he had been toying with for four years and it all came together this year so he could make it happen. He also emphasized that there are no big chain stores in downtown Greensboro, so the money people spend really does stay in the community.

In addition to the free valet parking service, there is also a free trolley running downtown from 1 to 5 p.m., which is a collaboration between DGI and Triad Local First.

The free valet service is offered as part of DGI’s “Downtown in December” program, which included the Festival of Lights, Holiday Parade, SantaCon, Santa at the Biltmore and Piedmont Winterfest.
