Amazon has officially announced that it plans to open a new delivery station in Whitsett in 2021.
It had previously been surmised that Amazon was building a last mile delivery facility in Rock Creek Center because of the size of the building and the contractor, but it wasn’t official, and now it is with an announcement from Amazon Logistics.
It appears Amazon is on the way to completely surrounding Greensboro without being in Greensboro. Amazon has its huge million-square-foot fulfillment center in the small portion of Kernersville that stretches into Guilford County near Piedmont Triad International Airport. It also has a last mile facility in Kernersville and one in High Point, both west of Greensboro, and soon will have this facility in Whitsett, east of Greensboro.
The last mile delivery facility will be about 65,000 square feet and employ between 100 and 200. The press release states, “The delivery station will create hundreds of full-time jobs paying a minimum of $15 an hour and offering a variety of benefits packages from day one.”
A lot of businesses and corporations have had a hard time enduring the COVID-19 restrictions. Amazon isn’t one of those. With people forced to stay home and local retailers forced to close their doors for months, Amazon’s sales have increased substantially during the pandemic.
Amazon spokesperson Ashley Lansdale said, “We are excited to continue to invest in the state of North Carolina with a new delivery station that will provide efficient delivery for customers and create hundreds of job opportunities. This new delivery station represents Amazon’s unwavering commitment to safety, technological innovations and skilled teams who are obsessed with delivering for our customers.”
President of the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce Brent Christensen said, “This latest addition to Amazon’s presence in Guilford County continues the momentum of growth in the area’s supply chain and logistics sector. Companies recognize our strategic location for transportation, our skilled workforce and excellent business climate.”
“It appears Amazon is on the way to completely surrounding Greensboro without being in Greensboro.”
This says a lot and it is also true for a lot of us who work in Greensboro.
Uh, yeah. Stay out of the socialist city.
Amazon virtue-signals by donating to a Marxist organization. Over 70% donated goes to the original three marxists who initiated BLM, and, their “consultants”. They are for the overthrow of our capitalist system, and replace it with a Communist system, Our Three Marxists are making mucho dinero with their organization. Capitalism is working well for OTM.
Say it ain’t so.
This is about logistics, and nothing else. Kernersville will handle Triad west, High Point, Triad south, and Whitset, Triad east to Durham delivery area.
Amazon will be a PTI soon with their freighters. The city isn’t dumb enough to clear land and build a taxiway over the highway ‘to nowhere” as they say.
No one is ready to rile up the noise pollution folks yet. It’s coming. https://www.bizjournals.com/triad/news/2020/03/27/cover-story-pti-poised-for-takeoff-after-current.html
