The Following Is A Letter To The Editor From Rhino Times Reader Jim Donaldson
Can’t file my application for Yvonne Johnson’s replacement of her former City Council Membership until Jan. 2 ,2025 ,but I am announcing myself as a candidate for her replacement. Understand it is a done deal in that her son will replace her and continue her waste of her pet project such as “The Cure the Violence Program” that has produced no visible results after over $1 million dollars of investments by our taxpayers.
My stance for me to lead the City of Greensboro and replace Yvonne Johnson on the City Council and in the best interest of its taxpayers is:
Lifelong Resident of Greensboro.
Page High School Graduate.
Decorated Athlete.
College Graduate.
Former City employee and a leader of a world respected and distinguished tennis program.
Accomplished sales and sales management professional.
Recognized and loyal member of the Greensboro Jaycee’s.
Highly recognized member of the GIRLS.
Good citizen and the best neighbor one in Greensboro could have. This includes my neighbors in Fisher Park, Sunset Hills, Latham Park, and Irving Park!
Unfortunately, I will not be chosen for this position because I despise our current Mayor, City Council, our City Managers, and our Chief of Police. They do not tolerate my wisdom, ethics, proposed conflicts of interests, accountability, common sense, and my repeated requests for transparency!
Our city has become a Joke and a is a Disaster in need of a big change! They need me and Common Sense!
Jim Donaldson
Hope you get it
Anyone but who we have now
This is just a request for an interview. The Foxes are guarding their hen house, and do you think they would even consider a candidate that challenges their wisdom, conflicts of interest, and lack of leadership? Many of these so-called public servants including Mayor Vaughan, City Councilman at Large Zack Matheny, former City Manager Taiwo Jaiweoba, and Greensboro Police Chief John Thompson will not even respond to my requests or concerns about many repeated disturbing events happening in this once fine City. The Joke of the Year by these so-called City Leaders is their repeated announcements of their commitment to “Transparency”. My prediction is nothing will change here with their selection of an individual to replace Yvonne Johnson.

You’ve got my vote !
Hello Jim, you will have a lot of of competition for this vacant seat. I too am filing for this vacancy. I have been a successful business over in Greensboro for 45 years and bring a wealth of experience and leadership to the table. My priorities are address the crime in Greensboro, solving the homeless issues and engaging business owners to boost our economy. Read more at https://nickyforgreensboro.com
Never, ever, overestimate the intelligence of the average Greensboro voter. That will be your biggest problem.
City Council members have been embedded for far too many years. Should kin folk automatically take a deceased relative’s seat? I vote no! The open seat should be claimed by votes at the polls only. Close-knit Greensboro city council needs new blood.
Advice to City Council office seekers. Develop a strong base of support and engage in frequent and large number of letters of support to the council. Emails to council members through the city website become public domain so exposure to your candidacy is improved by use of this email resource. Consider 15 second ads on TV to get your message out. You can be assured that an organized effort by council members will occur that looks favorably on long time Johnson followers.
Greensboro desperately needs forward thinking leadership to address growing infrastructure needs, and growth challenges. Social issues are not the city’s most pressing issues and this will be evidenced by selection of a new council member who has these values.
Good luck, Jim!
The first thing that needs to be done with the Greensboro Mayor, City Council, and Department Heads of the City of Greensboro is to establish accountability.
1) No one should serve as our Mayor on our City Council if they or their entity is funded by the City of Greensboro and its taxpayers.
2) Our Chief of Police must immediately fall under a new incentive plan which will be based on his or her performance. The bar will be set by the rate of crime in Greensboro. Other incentives will be based on the number of illegal guns and habitual offenders that are taken off our streets. This compensation plan will penalize the compensation of our Police Chief based on homicides, aggravated assaults, auto crash injuries, and property damages from auto crashes in our city.
3) Millions of dollars will be saved on consultant fees spent by our city by strictly limiting consultants. If a City Department head is not capable of being a leader in his field of expertise, he should be replaced and never be subsidized by consultants.
4) Our City Leaders have chosen to no longer actively manage the Greensboro Coliseum Complex and the Tanger Center. If this represents 20% of our City’s Budgets and Revenues, then all those formerly directly responsible for these operations (including our Mayor and City Council) compensation packages should be reduced 20%.
5) All the wasted funds on special interest projects (Cure the Violence), consultants, and unearned wages would be used to give our entire City of Greensboro Police Department and our First Responders a 20% raise.
6) To further fund these activities the Greensboro Gun Show will return to the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. If you remember our Mayor and former Coliseum Manager arbitrarily canceled this event costing us taxpayers close to one million dollars of revenues over a 5-year period. This would also help fund and attract the best first responders a city could have.
Just hope you voters will consider leaders with some common-sense initiatives when you vote next year for our Mayor and City Council members.
Jim Donaldson
Jim you don’t fit the council’s mold. I hope you get selected but you won’t
Let the voters decide. The last thing GSO needs is more of the same.
What I am seeking to do here is present a road map to our lost leaders of Greensboro on how to make this City Great Again! My road map goes against everything this Mayor and City Council have stood for and voted for the past several years. Should I apply for Yvonne Johnson’s City Council Seat, it would only be to begin the process of sending this city down the right road for the future and to keep our City from self-destructing before the new regime is elected next year.

20 % raise for First Responders? Yes, they are that important to the law-abiding Citizens of Greensboro. If these raises couldn’t be funded with more responsible city spending, then I would propose a one cent sales tax hike. These revenues would go straight to a fund exclusively established for these brave and important individuals and not to a General Fund for our City Leader’s to waste. No sir, I don’t like tax increases either. However, I would find such a tax would benefit us all.
Jim,
You and I have never met in person, but we have been allies on several posts over the last several years on several different platforms. We both feel the same way about the crime issues in the Greensboro area and the decline of our city appearance and lackluster performance of the city council. You have my support, but I encourage you to review Nikki‘s website and start working on boosting your name recognition as well as getting your message out to the general public. I encourage you to reach out to CHRIS MEADOWS and seek their support.
