Encourage Democratic Republics
Dear Editor,
Have they buried ”her majesty” yet?
I am a supporter of democracy, equality and self-determination. We must not forget about the racism, sexism, colonialism and imperialism that goes along with the royal family.
I think that the U.S. government, and the American people should oppose all monarchies, and encourage all countries to become democratic republics.
Chuck Mann
Roll your opinion back to colonial times when African chiefs, often heads of Republics, gathered up their people and placed them in cages for the NEW WORLD powers to purchase. England was not without sin but neither were they alone.
And sadly the USA is no longer a beacon on the hill when it comes to morality so please don’t curse the darkness until you can be a light
When was the USA ever a beacon on the hill in regards to morality? So curious to see this reply.
The United States of America was the first nation to formally codify that sovereignty resides in the people. The United States fought the World’s greatest Superpower to establish ideals of liberty, justice, democracy and explicitly restrained government. The United States fought an internal war that almost tore itself apart to abolish the institution of slavery (in the Western Hemisphere at least). The United States made huge sacrifices in two World Wars, indisputably tipping the balance against totalitarian aggression (and never claimed a square yard of territory as its spoils).
The United States can plausibly claim to be one of the most decent, moral, virtuous and upstanding countries in the World.
That reply good enough for you, Ricky?
Well 1 and 2 are morally ambiguous.
3 also includes half of the country fighting a war to keep slavery (that part of the USA just lost.
4 is predicated on the concept that fighting in a war is instead moral if you don’t gain landmass.
Interesting take. They all do suggest reasons to be proud of America, but moral beacons? Eh. Leaves me wanting actual evidence.
You fell into the trap, but go on, get the last word again. You are good at that.
If all that isn’t actual evidence, I don’t know what is.
Some people won’t let the facts get in the way of their opinions.
It must be an interesting little world you live in…
You’re a vacuous ignorant moron.
Well put!
Thanks, Jim!
Sour grapes here. Since her service in the British Army in WWII, the Queen has been more of a positive influence on more people on the planet than anyone I can think of. Sure, mistakes are made. You ever make one?
AMEN. Truer words were never spoken.
I stopped genuflecting a long time ago.
Before the US tells other nations how to act, maybe we should try fixing our own problems. The queen was an inspiration who served her country for 70 years. She did not ask to be queen, it was bestowed upon her simply because of her birth. Chuck, please find something else to complain about.
I thought England was a democratic republic. A lot of isms surrounding Queen ElizabethII. The same people who were from that era of racism, sexism, colonialism and imperialism founded America. Somehow they and we survived and still do, that monarchy. It’s a shame you couldn’t appreciate Queen Elizabeth II. I assume you agree with the person who tweeted that she hoped she died a painful death. Sad
How nice! IMHO you should be making your comments to the Greensboro News and Fishwrap. They’re more in line with your ilk. Jus sayin….
I love when there are comments like this. “No one cares what you think”, “you should go post on a page that has people that agree with you”, etc.
Seriously, you are so adverse to reading (not even discussing) another opinion that you think people should only share ideas with the people that agree with them?
Call me “woke” but no progress is made in echo chambers. If only this medium promoted constructive dialogue instead of extremist ideologues.
Hey Ricky, you might be woke and I might be a right wing nutter, but we can agree that open discourse and free debate are entirely beneficial, and help people to reach the truth. The robust exchange of ideas is an essential component of a free pluralistic society. That’s why the de facto censorship of national Town Halls like Facebook & Twitter is so chilling.
But we’re going to have to disagree about your contention that this medium fails to promote constructive dialogue. It does, and this exchange is a good example of it.
You mean when Fred Stratham (and many other examples) say go post somewhere else? Yeah… agree to disagree that is a great example of meaningful discourse.
Did I say that? Or anything like that?
Chuck, the US is a million miles from being a democracy, and really is closer to being a corrupt oligarchy than the representative republic the Constitution designed it to be. Nor is it characterized by equality, as people are presently political prisoners for being Trump supporters and blocked from jobs, advancement and university admission for having white skin or being Asian. Whereas the ruling class is above the law…ask Hunter or Epstein’s customers.
Political prisoners? You mean the Jan 6th rioters? Or the mass of criminals that Trump surrounded himself with and then abandoned after they did his bidding?
Very pleased to live in a Constitutional Republic where mob rule cannot dictate and abuse as in the banana democratic republics.
Chuck Mann – That’s just stupid! Queen Elizabeth II was a remarkable public servant for her entire life. The Monarchy plays an important role in the lives of British citizens; they overwhelmingly support it. I watched the entire 6:15 of the funeral. Media reported hundreds of thousands of persons standing along the streets and roads to get a final glimpse; it was obviously millions. The line to view her coffin was more than 5 miles long; people waited 14+ hours.
Since YOU are not subject to British rule, hold you criticism of the Monarchy. You should be more concerned about Idiot Biden and the Democrats destroying America.
Right, FJB. British politicians only dream of the stratospheric approval numbers the Queen always earned.
Some people just don’t understand the British Constitution (yes, it exists, if somewhat nebulously).
Perhaps Chuck ought not to advocate imposing our political structures on other countries (Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq). It never ends well. And anyway… isn’t that “colonialist and imperialist”?
I thought you were against that, Chucky.
I wish y’all would just admit that you only like the Queen because she was white and spoke English.
Ok I admit that. Now what. But I only speak Southern English
Seek help.
Why
Not you, you tit! You’re going to have to learn how to follow these threads, Rebel.
I love your comments, but try to focus please, or else you just look stupid, and you lose the plot.
At least Biden got one last sniff …
“You can’t fix stoopid”.
