Help District 8 School Board Candidate Get On The Ballot

Dear Editor,

I wholeheartedly agree with John Hammer’s endorsement of Board of Education candidates Crissy Pratt in District 2 and Tim Andrew in District 6. These two candidates, when added to Linda Welborn in District 4 and Robert Millican in District 8, will surely make a formidable New Vision, New Direction team. However, Robert is not quite on the ballot yet.

Robert, a conservative Independent, must secure 1,700 petition signatures from District 8 voters to earn his spot on the ballot. Robert could have easily changed his party to Republican to automatically be on the ballot. But as a life-long Independent, he stayed true to his character and morals. However, if Robert falls short of his goal, the Democrat incumbent, Deena Hayes-Green, will run unopposed (again) leaving District 8 voters without a choice in November. While many are enthusiastic for a board change and eagerly signing the petition, Robert is still short a few hundred signatures. If District 8 residents want a choice in November, more registered voters will need to sign the petition by May 17.

Please do this through his website at www.millicanforschoolboard.com or email at millicanforschoolboard@gmail.com.

Expand The Supreme Court

Dear Editor,

Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that we have to have nine Supreme Court justices. Nor would it require a constitutional amendment to add more seats. In fact, Congress has expanded the Supreme Court five times throughout American history.

Congress should use its constitutional authority to rebalance the Supreme Court, which has been taken over by a supermajority that holds extreme views outside of the mainstream of legal thought and out of step with most Americans. That’s why Congress must pass the Judiciary Act, which would add four seats to the Supreme Court and help stem the right-wing supermajority’s attacks on our fundamental freedoms, including the right to access abortion care.

There’s nothing stopping Congress from adding justices — except for the political will to do it, of course. In fact, recent polling showed that the majority of the American voters they represent support expanding the court. That’s why I’m urging Congress to pass to support the Judiciary Act of 2021 and add four seats to the Supreme Court.

Why Did First Lady Go To Ukraine?

Dear Editor,

What is Mrs. Biden’s visit to Ukraine going to accomplish?

Is she taking medical and food supplies with her?

Is she going to hug and wish the imprisoned well?

Do the tragically isolated care to see her? Will her smile protect, heal or provide assistance for them? Or is she going to stay and help care for the sick and hungry?

How much will the trip cost American taxpayers/transportation, staff, etc.?  Is the massive plane carrying any supplies?

What is the purpose?
