It’s that time of year again – the time when those in High Point have a convenient way to get fresh healthy foods.

This year, you’ll be able to find a whole lot more at the High Point Farmers Market, which is beginning its fifth season at its regular location – the High Point Public Library at 901 North Main St.

Each Saturday, from May 5 through Halloween, the market will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In addition to a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, there will also be vendors peddling houseplants, bedding plants and cut flowers.

If all that’s not enough to convince you to come out, the following draws might:

  • The High Point YWCA is the market’s community partner for May 7, and YWCA Staff will conduct exercise demonstrations throughout the morning and also provide crafts and other activities.
  • Free rabies vaccines will be given to cats and dogs four months of age and older. (Dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a carrier. The mobile unit will be near the North Main Street entrance across from Walgreens. Check ahead for times.)
  • As in past years, craft vendors will be selling soaps, woodworking items, pottery, jewelry, rugs, candles and decorative items.
  • Other offerings will include books and DVDs – all selling for a buck or less.

And, of course, there’s also the food. Among other local produce, shoppers will find strawberries, radishes, carrots, spring greens, hothouse tomatoes, squash, herbs, onions, cabbages and cauliflower.

For meat lovers, beef, pork and poultry will be on sale.

Shoppers will also find eggs, honey, baked goods, homemade dog treats, sauces, Italian ices and coffee.

The market is SNAP-certified and EBT cards can be used.

The market offers a “Double the Bucks” program that gives SNAP users twice the value of their EBT charge in Farmers Market tokens. The program is made possible by donations from Bethany Medical and the Greater High Point Food Alliance.

Also, Guilford Community Cares Network clients may use their orange cards at the Market to receive $10 in fresh produce each Saturday.

Bethany Medical is sponsoring the 2022 Farmers Market.
