Fix Gate City Boulevard
Dear Editor,
Why can’t the main thoroughfare (Gate City Boulevard) have decent care. You have the Coliseum, our only money maker in Greensboro, on a street that’s in great disrepair. I go down Gate City every day and it’s a shame. People come here from other cities, for God’s sake, have some pride. That’s not cool.
Why don’t they open up the swimming pool in summer and make an ice rink in winter, oh, and not charge so much money, nobody goes there. These cash cows, sitting around, doing nothing half the time, come on. Several cash cows in Greensboro that could be making money on a regular basis, if we were smart.
Just my two cents.

Money maker? The Greensboro Coliseum loses money yearly. Money may be recouped via taxes and revenues gathered in other ways, but the Coliseum itself rarely turns a profit. I never even drive on Gate City Blvd anymore unless I absolutely have to, I’ll take longer routes just to avoid the eyesore. Rather than waste any more money on it, let’s just pave the Coliseum over into parking and put in another hotel/rental/retail project. We won’t need the Coliseum anymore anyhow since our City Council lost the ACC tournament.
That’s the key… “if we were smart”.
Wait, Wait!
I know, let’s have a Bond Referendum to fund this project!
Gosh – what a shocker. I mean, wasn’t the name change from Lee Street and High Point Road supposed to make everything perfect along “Gate City Blvd”?? The way that the sleazeball politicians sold it, crime was going to go away, potholes smooth over, unicorns would dance over rainbows overhead 24/7 – – – – – –
Lol…good one Jay….sad but so true.
You mean LEE street?
The coliseum makes money? Really? When has that money pit EVER made money? And FYI, Gate City Boulevard is not nearly so much a thoroughfare as is Wendover Ave. Try taking that once in a while.
Just a note – The Coliseum has never made any money, it is supplemented in the millions of dollars each year by the tax payers of Greensboro. Many of us call the coliseum the “Money Pit” of Greensboro.
With all the money we shovel into that pit, we should name the street in front of it Bendover Avenue.
You get, and deserve, what you elect.
Amen Tom.
