From Rhino Times Reader Austin Morris
Wow!
That didn’t take long. This morning it was announced that the Trump Administration intends to cut off NPR and PBS from taxpayer money. By lunchtime I had an email from Susanne Simpson of PBS’ Masterpiece, begging me to use their provided template to petition my Congressmen not to cut off the money.
That’s strange, because until recently I recall NPR and PBS protesting that they got very little of their budget from taxpayers. But today it’s become an existential issue! Suddenly they can’t possibly survive without this “significant funding”.
Such duplicity, such mendacity, such hypocrisy.
But that’s “public” broadcasting for you.
Cut them off.
– Austin Morris

NPR says, “We are an independent press,” while simultaneously saying, “You are required to subsidize us.”
Meaning: “We can’t maintain our independence without staying dependent on government funding.”
There is nothing in the Constitution mandating that taxpayers fund them.
Yes, I agree with you. . .but politics is the primary source for retaining NPR. Sadly, our government (both national, state, and local) will always have their pet projects.
Exactly !
More lies/misinformation from Austin. Shocker. Yes, NPR only receives about 1% of their budget from federal sources and beleive they can survive the cut as it has long been a threat from the right and they have prepared for this day.
PBS on the other hand has never claimed they could easily survive without federal funding. PBS receives approximately 15% of their funding from federal funds. They will very much struggle to survive as they have without federal funds. Hopefully they can reinvent themselves via a partnership with a streaming network or two.
———-
No lies, just truth.
When Trump was decrying taxpayer funding of NPR & PBS, they repeatedly retorted by claiming they get very little taxpayer money and that it constitutes just a tiny part of their budget.
But… once Trump actually began to implement the cuts suddenly they whine and cry that it’s “significant funding” and threatens their very existence!
These government propaganda organizations have no commitment to truth (like Chris). They just twist, distort and misrepresent the facts – – and just plain lie (again, like Chris).
Their duplicity is evidenced by their sudden volte face.
NPR yes. PBS no. Austin twisting the truth like his is accusing others of doing even when presented with facts (which he quietly offers none of, shocker). Typical hypocrisy from a conservative. Yawn.
But you be you.
Oh, what a twisted web we weave, when at first we try to deceive.
NPR does indeed only get about 1% of its budget DIRECTLY from the Federal Government. Then they get more than twice that amount from the CPB (Corporation for Public Broadcasting).. Then they receive the majority of their money from their more than 1000 stations… which all receive significant funding… which is then returned to NPR.
Money is fungible. If you add up the financial support NPR gets from the Federal Government – i.e. the taxpayer – it is massive. They know this, which is why they’re so hysterical about losing the funding. If it was really just 1% they wouldn’t care, would they?
These are the lies that are propagated by NPR, and by lying liberals like “Chris”.
Like NPR, he lies, lies, lies.
Maybe those who like their format and political slant can ramp up their annual NPR/PBS direct donations to keep them lulling them with what they want to hear.
Well written, brief, and to the point Austin. I loved it.
IF they only “…, receives about 1% of their budget…” from the fed they have nothing to worry about. They don’t need my tax dollars. PBS on the other hand can be like every other broadcast entity. Why should I support a propaganda arm I disagree with 95% of the time.
And BTW Chris, where is the “…lies/misinformation…” from Austin? I only see more hyperbole on your part.
NPR was ready for this cut. They aren’t screaming for funds. PBS never said they didn’t need the funds.
That is the misinformation as I understand you struggle with reading comprehension.
What does PBS program that you disagree with? Does the letter R not make the rrrrrrrrr sound in your little world?
Chris, I’m one of those readers who believe you have the ability to make rational and thought-provoking discourse, but your comments often seem to be focused on belittling the discussions from others, as if you are the only one in the room with ideas to discuss. Your responses often seem to be the same as a child who pouts until they get their way.
Leave out the sarcasm and your responses may be worth reading.
Joe, I don’t know if you’re new here, but he’s an angry little man with mental health issues.
He’s not stupid, just odious and toxic.
Mostly just Alan and Austin. But I give as i receive as the childish name calling from conservatives here is the standard it seems. I would listen to you only as you call out those name calling children that frequent here.
And there you have it, Chris. That is why you are so universally disliked.
Nothing to do with your politics. Everything to do with your personality.
Says the guy that is so full of joy and care for others. LMAO

Thanks Alan, I appreciate your support.
Our other media outlets do just fine without getting into my pocket. It’s time the government media did the same.
We don’t need PRAVDA or Isvestia.
And the individual named Chris has developed an unhealthy fixation with me. I expect it’s because he’s been repeatedly humiliated by me in debates in these columns. He actually refers to discussions from years ago, which he’s never been able to let go of. He’s a sorry little loser obviously, but those kind of people can be dangerous.
I hear you Brother. I know your feelings.
I’ve taken to mostly (with an occasional return shot) ignoring him and letting him rant.
That’s probably the best way to deal with such an unpleasant individual.
It’s not that he espouses Leftist ideas, it’s that he’s so venomous and vitriolic when he does so.
He can barely make a comment without a gratuitous smear of conservatives, or other commenters.
I think he has serious mental health issues. And anger issues.
Says the guy that uses gratuitous smear of anything I comment or any left leaning person comments. Typical conservative hypocrisy.
Projection !
You REALLY have psychological problems, mate. Now you are projecting, even using my exact words about what you do.
See a psychiatrist. Please.
Claims I am projecting regarding his habit of gratuitous smears against other and in the same comment uses a gratuitous smear against me. The hypocrisy is real with this one. Kinda the conservative’s jam these days.
Show me just one gratuitous smear I have ever leveled at anyone else.
My saying you have metal health issues is not a gratuitous smear. It’s an accurate assessment that many here would agree with.
But calling somebody a bigot and a hater, without evidence, is certainly a smear. You once before called me a racist, but finally wrote a letter to this newspaper apologizing for your smear, since it was completely baseless and merely a product of your imagination and spite.
Remember?
That was when you still possessed a modicum of integrity. Your illness has advanced since then.
I am beginning to strongly believe you are just projecting your own mental issues on me and I encourage you to seek help.
Best wishes.
Every time I challenge you to back up your lies and character assassinations…
… YOU CANNOT DO SO.
Everyone can see that you are a chronic liar, and that he have a huge grudge against me because I repeatedly make you look foolish in these columns.
Hey, it’s not my fault you’re thick, and easily proven wrong.
Try to get over your hurt, go talk to your Mommy, and in future let’s debate the issue at hand, not hurl childish insults and vicious lies.
Okay?
Just a reminder Austin, when you wrestle with a pig you both get dirty. The difference is the pig loves it.

So do I.
It is my understanding that is is only Congress that can cancel the funding. I would suggest that Conservatives get a move-on while they (barely) control the House. If the President fails, there goes the House, maybe the Senate, and VP Vance, too.
NPR = National Progressive Radio
( funded by you & me, whether we like it or not )
