From Rhino Times reader Alan Marshall
The only thing the Guilford County Board of Commissioners and the GSO City Council is missing is black robes and powdered wigs. And this applies to R & D alike.
They not only show NO respect for the tax paying citizens who elected them they blatantly demonstrate they think we are stupid. They reduce the property tax but then turn around and produce an inflated property valuation resulting in an increase in property owner’s taxes. As I said, they think and treat us like we’re stupid.
They invent excuses for their actions and try to obfuscate what they are doing with BS like the need for more stuff due to population increases, and when asked to support this they shift to a different excuse. As I said, they think and treat us like we’re stupid.
They propose building facilities because, according to them, what exists is inadequate. And they try to hold us hostage by threatening to use financing techniques that would not only bypass the taxpayers, but end up costing us MORE than what they say. They create nonsensical positions and hire for them. They propose giving away taxpayer money to businesses because of a lack of effectiveness of the Chief of Police (we are a sanctuary city so criminals go crazy) and the County Sheriff (buy me new stuff not directly related to LE and disregard that I can’t carry a weapon). As I said, they think and treat us like we’re stupid.
They want to continue, no, increase the financing of an education system that is bloated and poorly run. They hold meetings and public forums not to learn, but to pacify the masses. As I said, they think and treat us like we’re stupid.
We the People do not have representation on the High Council of Greensboro or the Board of County Commissars. They don’t listen to the People unless you are one of THEIR People.
As I said, they think and treat us like we’re stupid.
Carpe Diem

All government is corrupt, rapacious, and self-serving, Alan.
I would agree that your description applies to all but a small single digit percentage of government.
One example I can present is the late Howard Coble. There were times when I did not agree with his stance but he would actually discuss it with you intelligently. To my knowledge he never rubber-stamped something just because it was put forth by a Republican. The closest current politician I can think of like him is John Fetterman. Yes, he’s a Democrat and I do not agree with him the majority of the time, but he does not blindly follow that party and does not hesitate to call a spade a spade. I have a modicum of respect for him for that.
I’m sure there are others on both sides, and I wish we could clone them. But we can’t, hence my stance that we need to impose term limits on these out of control critters. Those positions were and are not meant to a be place for these people to turn public service into a full time job where they get to set their own rules. This why I refer to these leeches (and the majority are, IMO, leeches) as ‘professional politicians’.

I agree with you Alan. I also respect Fetterman for his independence, but that was not so unusual until recently. Daniel Patrick Moynihan (who decried the behaviour of the black family), Joe Lieberman, Sam Nunn, and the whole phalanx of Southern Democrats, they all voted as they saw fit, rather than toeing the Party line.
They’re all gone (except Fetterman). The Democrat Party is a monolithic bloc of Leftism.
And I miss Howard Coble too. If all Congress were like him, America would be a much better place.
You are right in your assessment. Howard Coble was my commanding officer, a long time ago. I had his ear, and he listened. He was a fine man throughout. Some people do go to Congress to make things better, but almost all are pressured to follow the party line (usually with money and power).
Why would a Party spend well over $50 million dollars to elect an NC Senator? See how much is spent on the swell get-along Coop this year.
Another sign of Guilford county having lapsed into tax and spend oblivion includes the recent unfair valuation of personal property, to wit, vehicles. I have an auto which was purchased used from a dealer ten years ago, fair market value and has been appraised lately by the county to be worth more now that it was ten years ago. My calls to the tax office led to the only solution being that the car would have to be wrecked and delivered in person, to be inspected downtown, for there to be any adjustment made. Poppycock! Taxation without representation… We need more 1776 and less leftist pandering and waste.
We need to resurrect The Sons of Liberty Roberto.
Well the majority of voters who elect them are indeed stupid. We need all the smart common sense people to vote in these city and county elections and remove them from office.
For years now, they have not bothered to show up. I am dismayed of the electorate in Guilford County. There is no local news reporting that gives people the real story about what is happening. If there were, the wouldn’t pay any attention.
Use it, or lose it.
FYI for all,
Those liberal Democrat numb nuts in Congress are advocating the name of Ft.Bragg be changed BACK AGAIN to Ft. Liberty.
Hey professor/Cxxxxxxxx X Rxxx/Chris/Polly Pocket/Sybil/whatever, I bet you’re so proud be one of those.
Appreciate the observations and I agree with you Mr. Marshall but there were two Commissioners that voted against the budget. I watched them on livestream make compelling verbal arguments explaining why they would not support the tax increase and budget. Thank you Perdue and Tillman.
Their vote is for naught. It is up to the electorate.
The basic problem, locally, statewide, nationally… Never, ever, overestimate the intelligence of the average American voter. Hardly ever do due diligence. Just vote for the familiar name, legacy, family connection. And by all means vote for a career politician who’s been on the public teat his entire adult life. Someone who feels entitled to the position. Kinda sounds like a Roy Cooper type.
Roy doesn’t offer any solutions. Never has. Just says what he thinks people will like. Then vetoes the party line.
All we need is numerous more community forums where our so-called leaders say they are interested in the taxpayers and law-abiding citizen’s input? If our leaders including our Mayor, City Council Members, City Manager, and our past and present Chief’s of Police get out from behind the pulpit and get out on the streets of Greensboro, they could observe in person what horrible shape our city is really in!
TV news continues To broadcast 40 to 50 % increase in evaluation. My evaluation is 100%. $162,000 4 years ago (last evaluation) to over $325,000 now. Ridiculous!! I filed the form to challenge the increase, so far no response.

Mine went up 79 per cent.
BS rip off.
$200,000 for the International Civil Rights Center & Museum, how many years have this donation been gifted by the tax payers? Do we know the total amount given over the years and when did it start. Did I see the ICRC has purchased and entire city block.. If they have money to purchase property why are tax payers still giving money…?
Taxpayers are paying for the entire block. It’s a 200k gift to skip for 5 years.
