Yes, I was just calling to just really kind of compliment you guys on the new articles that you have put into your newspaper, the Street Level columns. They are just really, really good. And at first, John, I thought you might have a ghostwriter writing them for you, but – because they were so good. But – and I’m really kind of interested in the fact that nobody’s mentioned it in the Beep or letters to the editor. At least I haven’t seen it. And if they have, I apologize for that. But they’re just really great articles. And I just think I just want to give you your props and tell you that it was a great idea to include them in your newspaper. And the last thing I just want to say to you guys, leaving page 34 open for Geof Brooks, that’s a lot of class, guys. You could use it for advertising space or what have you. But to honor him like that is really a class act. And I appreciate that. Have a good day. Bye.

Hi. I’m calling about the Grammys. I didn’t watch them per se. I kind of clicked in and out at different times. I’d like to just say this: American people do not have a platform to say to Hollywood what they would like to say. And it’s a shame. Because I’m sure that the American people would like to tell them quite a bit if they could. You take Jennifer Lopez, who came from nothing. And you take all these other people up there, Meryl Streep, all these others that the American people have made real famous, and have made multimillion dollars on the American people, stand up there telling people to resist. To resist. Really? Is that how you bring the country together, standing up there telling people to resist, wearing gowns saying “Make American Great Again,” making fun of the president? We didn’t do that to Obama.

Hello, Beep. I would like Sharon Hightower to comment on the character and the integrity of Rufus Scales and Dejuan Yourse. See if you can’t get a comment from her. Thank you.

To all you people out there throughout this country, throughout all the land, if you feel frustrated, feel frightened, you feel scared, you feel like fear is coming all upon you, that Trump is our president, get you plenty boxes of Kleenex, plenty rolls of toilet paper. Lock yourself up in the bathroom, cry your eyes out and blow your nose, and if you have to, use the bathroom. I hope you can tell the difference between Kleenex tissue and toilet paper to use on yourself. You know, just come clean and just jump on the Trump train and make America great again. Live with it.

Yes, this is in response to the gentleman that called, or lady that called, several weeks ago, about WBIG’s anniversary of being put out of business. It brought back a lot of memories for me in that my dad worked at WBIG in the late ’40s, early ’50s. And back then you really had hardly any radio stations you could listen to, especially at night, a lot of them signed off at sundown. And some of the memories I have that is memorable to my dad’s funeral, of course. And he was 73 when he died. And I heard a voice behind me. I could recognize the voice but could not recognize the face. It was James Light, who was also announcer at BIG and the Night Lights. Appreciated remembering that.

% % %

Continuing about WBIG. My generation of teenagers basically listened to COG, which was 1320 on your dial. And disc jockeys like Johnny C. So that was our generation listening. It was always a fight getting in the car which radio station we were going to listen to. Dad, of course, being the driver usually had his choice. But other things I remember, too, was WEAL. There was another station that signed off by sundown, but I just can’t remember what it was. But this is just the class of ’72. So take care of yourselves. And, hopefully, some more memories come back this way.

Do you want to bring in questionable immigrants who could possibly take your job, receive all kinds of Social Service benefits, live next to you and may be plotting against our country?

I’m just reading an article in the Rhino, Feb. 9, about illegal immigration comes with a big price tag for the county. I’d like to know why it’s so hard for these county officials to implement a simple regulation that when you come in there and apply for food stamps, or social services, or any other entitlement that our citizens are entitled to, I’d like to know who and why they’re not being asked and to show identification to prove that they’re in this country legally. If they’re not being asked, or they’re lying, that’s just another crime that they’re committing while they’re here. They may have committed a felony by coming into the country illegally, and just continue to compound on that is to violate one law after the other.

When we call, we are dictating, and the message contains parentheses and/or quotes, we have to say the words, parentheses, closed parentheses, quote, end quote. Why don’t you print the punctuation marks rather than the words? It would make reading the message much more smoothly.

Editor’s Note: We print what the caller says.

I’m just sitting here watching Lou Dobbs tonight. They have Mr. Paul Sperry on there from the New York Post. He’s doing an article in there about Obama’s organization there. Obama’s forming a shadow government there. And it’s a radical Alinsky group. They’re organizing for action. There’s 30,000 members of it. And it’s formed in 2012. They have a 501(c)4 planned so they don’t have to show their donors. They got 32,000 trained right now, and 25 more coming in March. It’s another group that’s going out here and just tearing America, going after Trump, trying to disorganize him.

Trump can’t just close the borders, shut down foreign trade and call it done. If he starts a trade war with Mexico, we’ll end up paying way more in higher prices and increased manufacturing costs on things we make there and buy from there. Then he’ll add with some misguided border tax. The world is interdependent economically, and that’s not going to change. A lot of Americans sell things to other countries including Canada and Mexico. They’ll just tax us back. If Trump is the business genius he’s supposed to be, he should know that. Mexico isn’t going to pay for that multibillion dollar fence. You and I will.

Yeah, I was in Atlantic City last Friday. And I happened to notice that the Trump Taj Mahal was temporarily closed. My question is, they’re planning technically to knock down part of the hotel section and leave the game floor and all that in there and actually build the Taj into a nicer hotel, you know, redo the rooms and everything. And expand it into the old World’s Fair location at the plaza section that’s next door to it where they used to have the Playboy Club. But, anyway, what I’m wondering is, since Trump technically is now the president, and that is a Trump corporation and Trump business and it’s temporarily closed so they can figure out what they’re going to do, are they going to have to wait four years to rebuild the housing section of the Taj Mahal?

% % %

Editor’s Note: Trump doesn’t own the Trump Taj Mahal. He sold it. The new owner simply paid for the right to use the name.

I enjoyed very much your article on the council discussing their meeting. I would like to ask them, which one of them thought that a 60 percent raise for the council was inappropriate and compare this salary with other councils when they are in. Also, their logic reminds me of the textile mills that Greensboro had and it was formed. Their workers had no other choice than to work for little or no significant weekly salary and very minimum that the textile mills had to pay them, and to work in untolerable situations. They need to work with or go out with the city employees and see what their confronted digging ditches or fighting fires or police officers and should be compensated accordingly.

After watching the news, let me see if I got this straight. The liberals in Guilford County and surrounding areas have made it impossible to own a dog without having a fence. If you have a dog, and you put it out in your yard on a tie out, no matter how well-made, constructed it is, no matter how well sheltered and other accesses the dog has, you can be fined and cited for doing so. But on the other hand, if you have two pit bulls, and you let them run loose, and they attack your next-door neighbor’s kid, nobody is going to file any charges. Does this make any sense?

Hello. This is to the Democrat Party. I’d like to say, shame on you for taking this long to give Donald Trump his cabinet. I think it’s a shame that we, the American people, voted on Nov. 8 to put somebody in as a president, and you are holding out on this man’s cabinet. I think it’s a shame that we are seeing you Democrats do this here. I think it’s a shame. And I think you’re going to pay really big come 2018. And I think it’s really just a shame. And I think come 2018, that your time will come. And I think the Democrat Party just fell apart before our eyes. And I’d also like to say this, I think that Donald Trump is doing a good job. I’m not a Democrat, Republican. I’m an Independent. And I think he’s doing a good job.

The Affordable Care Act, Obamacare, nationalized health care, state health care. You know, going through the day dressed in scrubs trying to do my best as part of the health care system, I was recalling a conversation I had with a friend at Presbyterian, a pediatrician, who is actually in charge of implementing the Affordable Care Act at the hospital level, a process that he claims will take the better part of 20 years to do fully. Of course, now we’re looking at repealing and replacing Obamacare. Let me give you my thoughts. We need a model to work from. You can’t suddenly create nationalize health care out of a privatized insurance system. And now we’re hamstrung by what Obama intended to do. Well, the starting point is really the VA, the Veterans Administration. That entire closed system needs to be analyzed and needs to be modified into a sterling example that can be applied to the nation.

% % %

I’ll tell you why the Affordable Care Act and Obamacare failed and will continue to die a quick death, and any replacement from the Republicans that does not consider the problems of the VA will fail equally like Obamacare. You’ve got to take this environment of the VA, look at it, tear it apart, put it back together. That is your model. If you can’t take care of our veterans then you can’t take care of the nation.

Hey, I’m calling back about the pit bulls and the owners. I just got home from work and found out, oh, now they have decided after all to charge the owners in regard to the dog attack. I guess I wasn’t the only one who was outraged by the whole situation. Just one other thought, if those pit bulls had been on tie outs of some sort, this never would have happened. All you bleeding heart liberals out there that think it’s so cold and cruel to put a dog on a tie out, think about that. Goodbye.

Feb. 16, President Trump’s first press conference after being elected president. This has nothing to do with the election. If you watch any of that press conference, how can you sit there and say that Donald Trump is going to be a good president? That press conference was a joke. He is a joke. He does not take this job seriously. He has no respect for the job whatsoever. And can he even answer a question? Seriously. Just one question. Be serious about something. One thing that actually matters.

Let me give you some before and after numbers. The 2009 numbers will be the first numbers I give you. And, then, the Jan. 13, 2017 numbers will be the second numbers I give you. The DOW was at 6,626 in 2009. It was at 19,875 in 2017. The S&P 500 was 683 in 2009. It was 2274 in 2017. Unemployment was at 10 percent in 2009. In 2017, it is at 4.6 percent. Uninsured adults in 2009: 10.4 million; In 2017 – excuse me, insured adults.

I would like to respond to the person who called in saying that over half the country voted for Donald Trump’s opponent. Let me ask you this, who got inaugurated on Inauguration Day? I’d also like to say this: There are 3,200 counties in the United States. Hillary won 57. Donald Trump won the rest. So, subtract 57 from 3,200, and that’s how many counties that Donald Trump won. If you will look at the electoral map broken down by counties, you will see the Democratic Party is more like a coastal party now. Just a few counties on each end of the country support the Democrats.

There’s a General Motors school in Charlotte, North Carolina, and all General Motors dealers know about this. And as a salesman in 1970, they’d send people down for sales. It lasted about two days. One of the things that they made sure and stressed to us as salesmen, do not ever mention your competitor’s car. If you were a Buick salesman, you didn’t talk about Oldsmobiles. Now General Motors is supposed to be the largest corporation in the world they said, at that time. All we hear from the news and the Democrats is Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump. I don’t believe there is a man on earth that ain’t never heard the name Trump. They have really advertised for him. I believe that they’re wrong, and all they’re doing is just stealing his – they just well get ready to do that for the next eight years. They just keep on doing it. Keep on rioting. Keep on burning American flags, and keep on going after the cops, and you can keep Trump in for eight years, and I’ll be glad. The more they cuss him, the better I like it.

Uber drivers are not legal taxi drivers. Uber cars are not registered as commercial vehicles. They do not have commercial license plates or commercial insurance that is required by law for taxis or transportation services. It is not right, and it is not fair that they’re able to put legal businesses out of business. And to all the Uber users out there, let me ask you this, how would you like it if I patronized the business or use the business that puts your line of work out of business? How would you like that? If a business came along, dodged all the commercial regulations, operated illegally and was putting your line of work out of business, how would like it if I patronized that business? How would you like that?

% % %

Editor’s Note: The State of North Carolina regulates Uber and similar transportation systems. Uber meets the requirements set up by the state for its industry. If it didn’t, it wouldn’t be in business.

Northwest Greensboro is definitely, without a doubt, the home of the Kool-Aid drinkers. They actually believe there’s no other part of town but northwest. They think if they’re seen interacting anywhere in any other part of town that they’re going to be disgraced or thought less of. These people are really sick. I cannot believe some of the remarks I hear people say about other parts of town. The truth of the matter is there are more foreclosures in northwest Greensboro than any part of Greensboro. There are privileged areas and underprivileged areas in every part of Greensboro.
