The City of Greensboro’s Office of Community Safety together with the local chapter of Black Men United are inviting area residents and their families to come out to the “Community Giveaway and Resource Event” next weekend – where people will find food, entertainment, and items that are all priced at zero dollars and zero cents.
It will also be an event where attendees can learn how to connect with government services or community organizations that may be able to fill certain needs.
The combination party, giveaway and social resources event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23.
It will all be happening at Cumberland Courts Park at 479-499 N. Regan St. in Greensboro.
The Community Giveaway and Resource Event will feature food, music, and, as the name implies, items such as new clothes, shoes, cleaning supplies and much more will be given away.
Community-based organizations and government resources representatives will be on site to share information about the services they provide.
The goal of the City of Greensboro’s Office of Community Safety is to use “community-driven responses to enhance the public safety infrastructure.”
The Office’s mission statement reads, “Guided by core beliefs of co-production, partnership, equality, and integrity, the office pairs community-centered initiatives with trained, dedicated professionals equipped to address specific needs and provide greater access to social services.”
The Office of Community Safety works with both public safety professionals and neighborhood leaders in an attempt to arrive at the best outcomes for every resident.
Black Men United has the theme: “Boots on the Ground, Putting Community First.”
It’s a national community service organization that focuses on restoring and rebuilding communities of color across the country.
It’s mission is to “Create an alliance of men of African descent to mobilize our resources and empower our communities through Economics, Safety, and Spirituality which will restore pride back to the black family, while practicing being anti-nobody, building bridges and not walls.”
I am at a loss for words.
Not even disquised DEI…key word, giveaway, something the city of Greensboro does well. Your tax dollars at work while the leaf piles are growing.
Another “free lunch”.
Wonder how many shootings will happen?
If we’re lucky

Nothing is so easy as giving away other people’s money.
Why does Greensboro need an Office of Community Safety? What does that even mean? Lathisha McNeil, who oversees the Office of Community Safety, was hired in 2022. As described, she is a community “booster’ or “advocate.” Why should taxpayers pay for a “booster” or “advocate.” Remember who was City Manager in 2022? Another DEI job created from whole cloth by the infamous Taiwo Jaiyeoba. McNeil reports to the newly hired Assistant City Manager, Andrea Harrell. Probably, if Harrell were candid, she would admit that the Office of Community Safety is a total waste of taxpayer money and should be eliminated.
If there is anything to be given away it needs to go to the people around Asheville and up in the mountains. Not a bunch of Greensboro free loaders.
Everything you said is right. When you ride through there it will make you sick. Somebody has got money because the smell of pot will knock you down. Greensboro has gone down hill. I have lived hear all my life.
I don’t even know where to begin. Since when are black people the only poor people in Greensboro? I just don’t get it. Everything Greensboro does now is racial. Black only markets, black only this, black only that. Greensboro is determined to keep us divided!! Stop being racist and open this stuff up to people of ALL color!! Racism is wrong but yet all the black run groups and black owned businesses are getting by with it! Let white people try that and they will be prosecuted for a hate crime!
And open it up to seniors trying to live on Social Security !
