Filing for the 2024 election in North Carolina officially opened at noon on Monday, Dec. 4 and 17 candidates filed in Guilford County.

Filing will remain open until noon Friday, Dec. 15 and for those not familiar with the filing deadline, noon means noon and not 12:01 p.m.

Traditionally the two biggest filing days are the first and the last.

The primary will be held on Tuesday, March 5 2024 and the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024.

Democrat District 28 NC state Sen. Gladys Robinson filed to run for reelection.

Democrat District 57 NC state Rep. Ashton Clemmons filed to run for reelection.

Democrat District 58 NC state Rep. Amos Quick filed to run for reelection.

Republican former Guilford County Commissioner Alan Branson filed to run for the open NC District 59 state Representative seat that is currently held by state Rep. Jon Hardister who has filed to run for NC Commissioner of Labor.

Democrat District 60 NC state Rep. Cecil Brockman filed to run for reelection.

Republican District 62 state Rep. John Faircloth announced he would not be running for reelection. Two Republicans have filed to run for the open District 62 seat, former state Rep. John Blust and Michelle Bardsley.

Democrat District 4 Guilford County Commissioner Mary Beth Murphy filed to run for reelection.

Democrat District 5 Guilford County Commissioner Carly Cooke filed to run for reelection.

Democrat District 6 Guilford County Commissioner Brandon Gray-Hill filed to run for the District 6 seat. Gray-Hill was appointed by the Board of Commissioners to serve out the term of former Commissioner James Upchurch who resigned in October to accept a job out of state. Upchurch was elected as a Democrat and then changed parties and became a Republican.

Democrat District 8 Guilford County Commissioner Skip Alston who is currently serving as Chairman of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners filed to run for reelection.

Democrat District 1 Guilford County Board of Education member T. Dianne Bellamy-Small filed to run for reelection.

Republican District 3 Guilford County Board of Education member Michael Logan filed to run for the District 3 seat. After much controversy, Logan was appointed to serve out the term of former Guilford County Board of Education member Pat Tillman, after Tillman was elected to the Guilford County Board of Commissioners in 2022.

Republican Cara Townsend Dohner filed to run for the District 5 seat on the Guilford County Board of Education.

Democrat District 7 Guilford County Board of Education member Bettye Jenkins has filed to run for reelection.

Democrat Guilford County Register of Deeds Jeff Thigpen has filed to run for reelection. Thigpen was first elected Register of Deeds in 2004 and has generally received bipartisan support in his numerous reelection bids.
