On a clear sunny spring day, you don’t expect a power outage, but over 700 Duke Energy customers in downtown Greensboro lost power on Tuesday, March 1 at shortly after 1 p.m.

For about an hour, 711 Duke Energy customers in downtown Greensboro were without power, including The Tanger Center for the Performing Arts and the Hyatt Place hotel.

The outage was caused by a traffic accident and the initial report from Duke Energy listed the time that power would be restored as 4:15 p.m. Fortunately, Duke got the power restored to all but a few customers long before that.

According to the City of Greensboro, there was a traffic accident on North Spring Street near Bellemeade that was thought to have caused the outage, but there was no confirmation from Duke Energy.

It appears some downtown workers got an extra-long lunch break on the meteorological first day of spring and a great day to be outside enjoying the sunshine.
