A multi-agency collaborative drug investigation in Guilford County resulted this week in the seizure of over 50 pounds of cocaine and nearly 9 pounds of fentanyl as well as the arrests of two men.
Guilford County Sheriff Danny Rogers announced this week that, on Wednesday, Aug. 5, the Guilford County Narcotics Task Force and the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit concluded a narcotics investigation that resulted in the seizure of about 25,000 grams of cocaine, 4,000 grams of fentanyl and 453 grams of marijuana.
That works out to roughly 55 pounds of cocaine, 8.8 pounds of fentanyl and about a pound of marijuana.
Walter Lee Rajai Muhammad, (pictured above) 46, and Tysean Duran Carter, 28, were arrested as a result of the investigation.
Muhammad was charged with two counts of felony trafficking cocaine, two counts of felony trafficking fentanyl, felony possession of cocaine, three counts of felony maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for controlled substances, felony possession of marijuana and felony possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance.
Carter now faces the same charges: two counts of felony trafficking cocaine, two counts of felony trafficking fentanyl, felony possession of cocaine, three counts of felony maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for controlled substances, felony possession of marijuana and felony possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance.
Both men are being held at the Guilford County Detention Center in downtown Greensboro without bond. Their first appearances are scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7 at 2 p.m.
The Guilford County Narcotics Task Force is a joint operation involving the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, Greensboro Police Department and NC State Bureau of Investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office said reducing fentanyl-related overdoses and deaths remains one of the task force’s primary objectives.
“This seizure may have saved lives and sends a strong message to those who traffic deadly drugs in our community,” the Sheriff’s Office stated when announcing the arrests on Friday, Aug. 7.
The Sheriff’s Office didn’t initially release details as to where the drugs were seized, how long the investigation had been underway or the estimated street value of the narcotics. But they are expected to give answers to a lot of those questions on Friday afternoon.
Rogers and Greensboro Police Chief Kamran Afzal are scheduled to hold that joint news conference at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 at the Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division Building in Greensboro to provide those additional details.
The seized narcotics are also expected to be displayed at that news conference.
” This seizure may have saved lives,” A statement from the Sheriff’s office. I can assure you that this drug bust saved lives. If you have ever lost a family member to drugs you will understand. There is a high probability that these two individuals are responsible for death due to distribution and have ruined countless numbers of lives. If convicted, they should receive no less than twenty years in prison. If it can be shown that they did kill due to distribution, then the death penalty is warranted. There is no room for plea bargaining if found guilty of these offenses.
Anybody can find drugs. I just want to know why they’re not part of the Invictus program like surrounding counties. How many tits from the National exploitation of children have they received and how many are they working? Or has it they’re not doing a whole lot of nothing. Danny’s looking for Glory or big fish while the little ones get away.
