This week North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson “wholeheartedly” endorsed Republican 6th District congressional candidate Lee Haywood.

In most cases endorsements don’t mean a whole lot.  They seem to be more important to candidates then to voters. However, Robinson’s endorsement is different.

In the North Carolina Republican Party Robinson is a rising star who will almost certainly be a candidate for governor in 2024.

In a video released by the Haywood campaign Robinson says that he “wholeheartedly” endorses Haywood.  The press release quotes Robinson saying, “We cannot go wrong with Lee Haywood because this man is a fighter.  We need to send Lee Haywood to Washington, DC.”

In the press release Haywood said, “This district is where I have lived for over 50 years.  I’m ready, able, and willing to win this race and take back Congress.  We must restore common sense to Washington, DC.”

Haywood is one of seven Republican candidates vying for the nomination to run in the general election in November.  Haywood was the Republican 6th District candidate in 2020 and lost that race to 6th District Congresswoman Kathy Manning.

However, the congressional districts in the state have been redrawn and the current 6th District drawn by and approved by the courts is more favorable to Republicans than the 6th District was in 2020.

Robinson was made famous by an impromptu three-minute speech to the Greensboro City Council in 2018 on Second Amendment rights.  The video of that speech went viral with millions of views.

In 2020 Robinson made his first run for office and was easily elected NC lieutenant governor.  He is definitely a rising star in the North Carolina Republican Party and his endorsement is one of the more sought after endorsements of Republican candidates in the state.

The other Republican 6th District candidates are Christian Castelli, Mary Ann Contogiannis, Laura Pichardo, Bill Schuch, Gerry Austin and Marvin Boguslawski.
