Those people in High Point who use the public transportation system to get around the city may have to make some adjustments for a while.
Like many businesses and government agencies, High Point is having trouble staffing essential positions, and that means that, effective Friday, July 5, the High Point Transit System service will be operating on reduced hours all day on weekdays from 5:45 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.
Many routes will operate only once an hour rather than every 30 minutes.
This change will remain in place until further notice. City officials didn’t provide any estimated timeline as to when full service would be restored.
Under the new schedule, the following routes will run hourly service from 5:45 a.m. until 6:15 p.m. on Monday through Friday:
Route 12 – W. Green Dr.
Route 13 – Montlieu Ave.
Route 14 – Westchester Dr.
Route 16 – Leonard Ave.
Route 17 – Washington St.
Route 18 – E. Green Dr.
Route 19 – English Rd.
Route 20 – Kearns Ave.
Also, Route 10 – North Main Street, as well as Route 11 – South Main Street will operate every 30 minutes.
Route 25 – Jamestown/GTCC – will have regular service to and from the GTCC campus.
Saturday routes will run on a regular schedule.
According to a spokesperson for High Point Transit, the route hours have been modified “due to a number of operational challenges” including personnel availability and staffing.
“We have a number of drivers that have been hired,” the spokesperson stated, “but they are continuing their training. We want to get back to normal scheduling as soon as possible.”
How about lack of riders?
Bingo!!!! Just like here in Geekboro. . .lots of buses with 4 or 5 passengers. If you don’t believe it, follow some of the buses sometime and you’ll find out. I did, and it’s true. . . .especially on the West Friendly Avenue route.
Stand around in 97 Degree heat for an hour!
Walk from your home to the nearest bus stop!
Hope it’s going to somewhere close to where you actually want to go!
Ride the bus with semi-psychotic smelly people!
Or get in your car, whenever you want, from your driveway, turn on the A/C, go exactly where you want in privacy, at any time of day or night, and assert your right physical freedom.
“Public Transportation” is for cattle.
Automobiles are for free people.
