The High Point Public Library is known for extending its community programs far beyond reading and books, and this month the library will host two events that deal with promoting very different kinds of growth. There will be one on plant growth – the Spring Sprouts Spectacular program, and one on growing businesses: “Simple Steps” For Business Startups.”
The Sprouts Spectacular will be presented by Crystal Mercer and Mark Taylor in the library’s Teaching Garden. They will teach participants about growing the best spring vegetables.
This event is free and open to the public. No registration is required. It will be held at 901 N. Main St. in High Point on Saturday, April 15 at 10 a.m.
For more information regarding the event, you can contact Mark Taylor at 336-883- 3646 or email him at mark.taylor@highpointnc.gov.
There’s a five-week course coming as well. This one is designed for people who are considering starting a business or buying a business and for small business owners who want to enrich and grow their business profitably.
The course will take place on Tuesdays beginning April 18 through May 16, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the High Point Public Library at 901 N. Main St.
The library has partnered with SCORE Piedmont Triad – the nation’s largest network of volunteer expert business mentors – to present “Simple Steps,” defined as a “comprehensive program to assist and equip small business entrepreneurs with the tools needed to create and sustain a successful business.”
Each class will focus on a different topic as follows:
Tuesday, April 18 – Part 1: Startup Basics
Tuesday, April 25 – Part 2: Defining your Business Concept
Tuesday, May 2 – Part 3: Creating your Marketing Plan
Tuesday, May 9 – Part 4: Financial Matters
Tuesday, May 16 – Funding Sources and Next Steps
The program is free and open to the public. Registration is required and can be completed at www.score.org/piedmonttriad/local-workshops.
Sounds like a good opportunity for those who have an idea, but few marketing or economic skills.
Another T-shirt shop with cheep socks and gee-gaws ain’t gonna fly.
