A lot of people are already starting to wind down for summer, which starts in about a week.
However, the High Point Public Library is instead gearing up for two major annual events – the library’s public health fair and its large book sale.
The High Point library is hosting its annual Health Fair on Tuesday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the library’s parking lot at 901 N. Main St.
The Friends of High Point Public Library will also hold a summer book sale on Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18 on the first floor of the library.
During the health fair, attendees will get the chance to meet and talk with local health care professionals and receive various free screenings.
The event will, of course, include COVID-19 tests and booster shot opportunities – and – a little more unexpected – there will be tours of a giant inflatable colon, children’s activities, food demonstrations, bone density scans, door prizes and other offerings.
This free community event is open to everyone of all ages. To sign up, call Maxine Days at 336-883-3646 or send an email to maxine.days@highpointnc.gov.
A few days before the public health event, the library will hold its annual summer book sale.
On Friday, June 17 there will be a Friends Only pre-sale from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Memberships may be purchased, and existing memberships may be renewed at the door. Individual memberships start at 10 bucks each.
On Saturday, the sale will be open to the public. That day, the regular book sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
From 3 to 4:30 p.m., Friends of the Library will hold the popular ‘bag sale’ during which customers can fill a bag for only $4. Bags will be provided.
Fiction books, DVDs and audiobooks will be $1 each at the sale, and adult non-fiction books will be $2. Children’s items, records and CDs are two for $1. Specialty items are individually priced.
All proceeds from the sale go to support library programs and services. For more information about the Friends’ membership or the book sale, you can contact Jo Williamson at 336-932-1342.

So what do you do with the books you don’t sell? Burn them?
