The Guilford County Republican Party issued a press release after once again nominating Michael Logan for the open District 3 seat on the Guilford County Board of Education on Wednesday, Aug. 30.
The press release notes that Logan had a 26-year career as a teacher in Guilford County Schools, achieved the highest level of certification in his field and served as a department chair and leadership representative during his career.
It also notes that Logan was named Teacher of the Month in September 2022 by the Carolina Teachers Alliance.
Chairman of the Guilford County Republican Party Chris Meadows said, “We are confident Mr. Logan will represent District 3 well. His unique perspective and experience as an educator is invaluable to the Board of Education. As a Board member, Mr. Logan looks forward to serving the parents and students with the same enthusiastic tenacity as he did as a teacher. Mr. Logan is very approachable and intends to be active and visible in his district.”
Meadows added, “We expect Mr. Logan to be sworn in and seated at the next scheduled Board meeting. We anticipate a sizable crowd of voters and supporters from Guilford County District 3, as well as elected officials from Guilford County and the NC General Assembly to attend.”
The Guilford County Republican Party Executive Committee has been nominating Logan for the District 3 seat on the school board since November 2022. The other nominations have resulted in a vote by the Democrat majority on the school board not to accept Logan’s nomination – except for the last nomination in April, when the school board determined that the nomination by the Guilford County Republican Party Executive Committee was not done properly and, instead of swearing in Logan, the Guilford County Board of Education voted to seat Bill Goebel as the District 3 Board of Education member. Goebel has never been nominated by the Guilford County Republican Party for a seat on the school board.
The North Carolina General Assembly passed a law on Aug. 17 removing Goebel from his seat on the school board and stating that the nominee of the Guilford County Republican Party Executive Committee “shall take the oath of office at the next regular meeting of the Board.”
The next regular meeting of the Guilford County Board of Education is Tuesday, Sept. 19.
