People in Guilford County are clamoring for coronavirus tests and, on Thursday, Jan. 6, the Guilford County Department of Public Health announced a new COVID-19 testing clinic that will open on Saturday, Jan. 8 in cooperation with Cone Health, MAKO Medical and the City of Greensboro.

The clinic which is being open due to tremendous demand for tests – along with a shortage of home tests – will operate seven days a week from Saturday, Jan. 8 through Friday, Jan. 21.

The COVID tests will be administered inside of Piedmont Hall at 2409 W. Gate City Blvd in the Greensboro Coliseum Complex – at no out-of-pocket cost to those being tested.

Testing will be available on the following schedule:

  • Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pre-registration is “strongly encouraged” since that will help clinic staff reduce wait times.

In a statement released along with the clinic information, Guilford County Health Director Dr. Iulia Vann said the goal of county and local health officials is to help meet the high demand for testing.

Vann stated, “With the increased demand for COVID-19 testing in Guilford County, it is our shared goal that community members have adequate and accessible testing options. This partnership with MAKO Medical, Cone Health, and the City of Greensboro is an encouraging and positive development towards meeting the needs of our community, and ultimately decreasing the spread of COVID-19.”

Cone Health CEO Dr. Mary Jo Cagle also released a statement.

“This partnership will play an important role in slowing the spread of COVID-19 as cases continue to surge in our region and reducing the strain on our emergency departments.  We are proud to partner with these dedicated organizations to provide additional testing when and where it’s needed most.”
