The Greensboro Grasshoppers have a new owner, Temerity Baseball.

It was announced Tuesday, Jan. 4 that Temerity Baseball, which also owns the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, had purchased the Grasshoppers, a High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, which plays home games in First National Bank Field in downtown Greensboro.

Temerity Baseball CEO Andy Sandler in a press release said, “Greensboro has been blessed with a first-class minor league ballpark, a committed local ownership group and a talented front office staff focused on the fan experience and community partnership.

He added, “Temerity Baseball looks forward to building on this past success and to continue the focus on fans and community.  We also look forward to building on the Grasshoppers long term partnership with the Pittsburgh Pirates to further enhance the experience for Greensboro baseball fans.”

Temerity Baseball has had a lot of success in expanding the usage of the baseball stadium in Kannapolis and plans to do  the same in Greensboro, making First National Bank Field a year-round destination for food, music and events.  In Kannopolis they opened a restaurant in the stadium and have plans for a brewery.  The same kind of development can be expected at First National Bank Field.

When the minor league team moved to what is now First National Bank Field in 2005, the team also changed its name from the Bats to the Grasshoppers.

Temerity Baseball is a family-owned business run by Sandler and his sons.  Sandler is an entrepreneur and investor who has founded and led professional services and software firms focused on financial services.  He has also served as a legal advisor for the financial services industry.
