“Clang, clang, clang went the trolley…”

The one serving downtown Greensboro, that is.

On Wednesday, Dec. 11, Downtown Greensboro Inc. (DGI) and Triad Local First announced that they’ll be offering free trolley rides through the heart of the city’s downtown on Saturday, Dec. 14 and Saturday, Dec. 21.

Those two groups got together to provide the free trolley rides for all takers at a time of year when downtown Greensboro is well decorated for the holidays and the view along the route should be terrific.

The free trolley rides will take place as part of two “Saturday Stroll” events happening in downtown Greensboro from 1 to 5 p.m. on those two Saturdays. Saturday Strolls are days when Triad Local First and DGI are trying to draw people – especially shoppers and diners – downtown with special attractions such as the appearance of Santa Claus at the Biltmore Hotel from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both of those Saturdays, the free trolley rides and special deals on food or shop items some downtown businesses offer.

Representatives of both organizations say this is being done to encourage more people to shop local during the “Buy Local Season” holiday campaign.

Want-to-be riders can board the trolley at the Biltmore Hotel trolley stop at 111 W. Washington St. on Dec. 14 and Dec. 21, where they’ll “enjoy a festive holiday ride through the center city.”  Those who want to ride will also be able to wave the trolley down at any point along the route and hop right on.

Those who wish to shop will be able to hop on and off the trolley at restaurants and retail shops located in Downtown Greensboro as the trolley passes by.
