Friday, April 1, also known as April Fools’ Day, is the first First Friday of spring and the first First Friday of 2022 to feature First Friday Night Live.
First Friday is a monthly event hosted by Downtown Greensboro Inc. (DGI) featuring numerous specials and events in the Center City. First Fridays, like just about everything else you can think of, hit a bit of a bump with the COVID-19 shutdowns, but it has quickly gotten back up to speed in 2022.
First Friday Night Live will feature The Shakedown performing in the Southern First Bank parking lot on the corner of South Greene Street and West Market Street from 7 to 9 p.m. Beer will be available on site provided by Little Brother Brewing and dining options will be available from Maho’s Bistro and Magnificent Concessions. First Friday Night Live is being sponsored by Southern First Bank.
Those who haven’t been in downtown Greensboro this month may notice a bunch of new signs designating “The Boro,” an area where alcoholic beverages may be carried outside from noon to 9 p.m. There are, of course, a number of regulations concerning outdoor alcohol consumption, such as the alcoholic beverage must be in a The Boro cup and people are not allowed to take alcoholic beverages purchased at one establishment into another establishment with a license to serve alcoholic beverages. However, beverages can be taken into retail establishments.
Greensboro Downtown Parks will be kicking off the spring season on Friday, April 1 by the year’s first lighting of Janet Echelman’s hanging sculpture, Where We Met, in LeBauer Park. Where We Met is taken down in the winter, and this winter the artwork went through some repair and renovation. It is reportedly sporting some new colors for 2022.
I may miss it.
