Let the games begin.
Even before the start of the filing period, a lot of area residents have expressed a desire to take political seats in the next election.
Well, starting right after the July Fourth Weekend, they’ll be allowed to officially toss their hats in the ring by registering to run at the Guilford County Board of Elections.
The 2025 filing period to run for municipal offices opens up on Monday, July 7, at 8 a.m. and ends on Friday, July 18, at noon. If you’re a wannabe elected official, make note of that noon cutoff time on the last day – some in the past have assumed they have until 5 p.m. that day to file and they definitely do not.
Any qualified candidate wishing to run for municipal office in Guilford County in the following cities and towns must file notices of candidacy and pay the appropriate filing fee before Friday, July 18, at noon in order to see their name on the ballot.
Here’s a list of open offices and how much you’ll have to shell out to run for them
- Greensboro Mayor (1 seat) $300.00

According to North Carolina law, notices of candidacy and filing fees have to be in the Guilford County Board of Elections office or notarized and received – not postmarked – by noon on Friday, July 18.
If you aren’t filing in person, election officials stress that the only acceptable delivery methods are USPS or commercial courier. A surrogate may not deliver the notice of candidacy and filing fee.
The Guilford County Board of Elections has offices at 301 W. Market St. in downtown Greensboro and at 325 E. Russell Ave. in downtown High Point.
If you are running for office this year and have any questions, you can visit guilfordcountync.gov/elections or call 336-641-3836.

Hope it can be interesting and not the same old same old yawn mindset of the 1960s culture which is so obvious in the city and county.
If you’re new to this game, and are willing to pay the price of swimming upstream I’m happy to see you play.

Goldie Wells is not running for re-election, so she’s gone. Jim Kee is running for her seat. He’s much better.
Summerfield is run by spendaholics and government in the closet. They suppress citizen taxpayer participation as much as possible. Budget was a farce — council worked from a June 30th budget that information was denied to the citizens. Double property taxes, and now 22 employees on payroll. No town meetings from June 10 to August 12, 2025. Town manager “Twit” said bulldozers in August.
your govt (in)action.
Thank you to John Doggett for voting NO to property tax increase and no for grossly inflated budget — that was a secret from the taxpayers. Mayor Tim Sessoms was correct — it is not a “balanced budget” because they refuse to give estimated amount of millions in 3 projects — never approved by taxpayers. Town received Banders grant 2022 to complete the park the lovely way it was designed–now will be “bare bones” because town council is going to build a water tower — and co-mingle and destroy our wells, and they are all in using IMMINENT DOMAIN Condemnation to get property for A&Y trail. I want them to put 10′ wide trail in their front yards. We own our wells but town is taking them. Town manager “Twit” is telling people to give up their well and property “OR ELSE…”
The “public servants” of Summerfield sound more like the Gestapo.
Government always becomes a cancer that feeds on the citizens, while abusing them.
are your wells PFAS contaminated ? reedy fork creek is.
