One sign of the times is that, next week, McDonald’s restaurants in Greensboro – and other parts of North Carolina and southern Virginia – are holding a mass hiring event. The company is looking for more than 14,000 employees in that region alone and, on Tuesday, August 9, it’s hosting a “Drive-up Hiring Day.”
On that day, job seekers can simply drive-up to any participating McDonald’s restaurants for an on-the-spot interview – there’s no prior scheduling required.
Or, even easier, on August 9, anyone can just text the word ‘apply’ to 36453 to start an application with the company.
McDonald’s franchises are seeking to hire over 14,000 employees to work at restaurants throughout North Carolina and Virginia – including Greenville, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Raleigh, Durham, Wilmington as well as the Roanoke area.
The Drive-Up Hiring Day, company officials say, offers candidates a convenient way to apply. With the job market as tight as it is right now many companies are having to get creative when it comes to attracting new workers.
Throughout greater central and coastal North Carolina and southern Virginia, more than14,000 positions are available with the company right now. Those looking for employment can visit restaurants between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to get an “on-the-spot” interview.
McDonald’s states that the franchises offer “competitive wages, myriad advancement opportunities, flexible scheduling, free meals and tuition reimbursement assistance, to name a few of the benefits.”

If you visit a few local restaurants, you can see why they have trouble hiring & keeping good employees. Besides, with all the govt freebies, why would anyone actually work in a low-level job?

Unemployment is 3.5%. Maybe we need more immigration to fill jobs?
It’s not so much about government freebies, although, i do think enough is enough with that. A lot of people lost everything during the pandemic and had to move back in with family or group up as roommates with friends. And given the way the last 2 years has changed most people’s perspectives on what’s important, a large majority of americans have decided they’re going back to school or holding out for the right opportunity, because they don’t ever want to go through this again. I’m one of them. I had a good job making good money as a butcher. Great benefits and great pay. But i’ve lost over 20 people close to me in the last 2 years to covid,OD,medical complications, or suicide. And i just decided that my life was too short to work in a meat cooler for the next 30 years,retire, and wait to die. I want to actually be happy. And if that means putting life on hold to do it right, then so be it. Just understand that when you make sarcastic political comments, you don’t really know what everyone has been through. And for the record: If anyone is carrying the flag for Democrats or Republicans right now they’re an idiot. Both parties lie. Both parties take advantage of the working class. Both parties sell their souls to lobbyists. And both parties suck. Period.
