There are a whole lot of benefits government employees get that private sector employees don’t – but those benefits don’t usually include free drinks at exclusive parties.
However, for all of you who chose to work in the private sector, or, say, run a newspaper, there’s a new benefit to be jealous of: An exclusive party with a DJ, adult beverages and fun activities for government employees and their families.
The City of Greensboro and the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce are jointly hosting a first for the area – a “Public Service Appreciation Night” on Friday, Sept. 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cadillac Service Garage event space at 304 E. Market St. in Greensboro.
This party will take place during the NC Folk Festival, so revelers will be able to keep the party going by walking toward the great music coming from downtown later in the evening.
The celebration is open to City of Greensboro, Guilford County, and Guilford County Schools staff, educators, first responders, and their families, and it will feature complimentary beverages and snacks, games and giveaways, in addition to dancing with music provided by a DJ.
All public service employees must bring their ID badges to enter.
Parking will be available in the February One parking deck at 110 S. Elm St. in Greensboro.
How nice. You tax dollars at work!
Brought to you by the taxpayers in Greensboro City and Guilford County. When you write your check for your property taxes, remember, you are not invited to the party you are paying for. Government no longer performs its role spending taxpayer money. Government has such a hold on power because it’s rich with your money. Government has no shame and it’s evident by how open government is about certain activities. Government discriminates openly with DEI and other such programs. Voting districts have allowed the same uninspiring, self-interested, power-hungry politicians to be elected and re-elected. Uninformed and easily manipulated voters are not going away. The only probable solution is term limits for ALL elected positions. Write your representatives in Raleigh and demand an end to local and state career politicians by passing term limits legislation. Do this as individuals and as groups. If you have the time and the means, visit Raleigh and make your demands known in person.
I am so glad the city and county government employees are going to receive the appreciation party. It’s an appropriate gesture.
You are sooo ignorant
Wow. Lets reward them with free adult beverages. Watch them get a little on the high side and then get in cars and hit the streets. I hope city will reward them with a ticket for DUI.
Now now Fedup…you know as well as everyone else the Police Chief made sure to slightly alter the patrol patterns to make sure there wouldn’t be some embarrassing situations like what happen with the past City Manager.
You know, the old “wink, wink, nod, nod, Bob’s your Uncle”
Finally……a worthwhile expenditure of tax revenue.
I always assumed the City Chamber of Commerce function was funded by membership dues. So the party is actually self funded by the members.
Really, Chris?
When has the City Chamber of Commerce been concerned about nonmembers? How about never?
Possibly Chris but the article says co hosted with the city. To me that says paid for by the city but am I wrong? The Rhino fact checkers need to investigate. Those fact checkers usually move with lightning speed but I can wait a few days lol.
I am so happy to be paying for this party and not being invited. How much will my taxes go up now?
Wonder if you just showed up. Tell them how much tax you pay and u feel that you should be allowed in
Would take chutzpah, but great idea. Would be really effective if done en masse.
I know the CofC & the venue both likey have good intentions here but this must be said.
As a retired first responder & government employee, the only “benefit” that ever mattered after staying too long to leave was surviving long enough to get the hell out of there. I’ll gladly enjoy my antisocial posture from afar while those who partake put their careers & possibly their lives at risk. I don’t like doom & gloom, but you just announced a first responders social event to the public. There’s an old saying about fish in a barrel that comes to mind to those of us paying attention. Safety is number one. Then there’s the political fallout from who did or didn’t attend and how that will be perceived by their peers and management. Nothing in or attached to government is ever as simple as it seems ladies & gentlemen. Was he/she the kiss@$$, the token that was voluntold to be there, or will showing up raise questions about one’s motives which could crush their opportunity for advancement or lose the respect of their peers?
If you know, you know.
JS
“You have a bad attitude. You’re not a team player. Aaaiiiyyyeee.”
Unfortunately, what JS is saying about fallout for nonattendance applies in the private sector, too.
Such an accurate description of problems possible with such events! Years ago it was actually fun to go to company soirees and gatherings. Especially when alcohol was allowed. People were able to converse and even argue a bit and yes, every once in a while someone would get out of hand and receive much humiliation at work afterwards. But these days, one definitely, as you say put their career at risk at said events. The amount of sensitivity to most subjects we all think about is crazy! Day the wrong word, at the wrong time …..
No, not worth it.
FREE BOOZE FOR THE PARASITES !
… but the peasants who produce wealth have to pay for it all. That’s you and me.
Read that as govt workers get the Merlot, and private pockets get the tax moolah.
What?!!! They HAVE to show an ID to vote…excuse me…I mean to attend????!!!
When I grow up I want to be a City or County Employee. They are often so fortunate as many do not have to live under the same rules of law as our citizens do! e.g. Former City Manager involved in Domestic Battery-not arrested, not taken to jail, not charged. Guilford County Deputy Sheriff arrested for DUI, he too was at work the next day. Wake up citizen’s! Could your City and County Governments be anymore corrupt? Wonder why Mayor Vaughan wants to raise and impose more taxes on you? It takes a lot of money to maintain a corrupt Administration and buy votes!
Just one more question? Did any tax payers get a report from the five County Commissioners and Administrators it took to go to Tampa Florida for a National Meeting to learn how to run a more efficient County Government? Watch out for the Foxes, they are Fleecing you poor Sheep!
Very good point Jim!
