Downtown Greensboro Inc. has a host of events to celebrate the holiday season in downtown Greensboro.
The increasingly popular Festival of Lights is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 2, officially from 5:30 to 9 p.m., but many folks have been known to linger long after the event has officially ended. The Festival of Lights will include the community singalong, the lighting of the community tree in Center City Park, carolers, acoustic performances, a laser show and, of course, Santa.
The Festival of Lights is followed by the Greensboro Holiday Parade on Saturday, Dec. 3 from noon to 2 p.m. and will once again feature the huge Macy’s-style balloons. For those interested in participating, there always seems to be a shortage of balloon handlers.
On Saturday, Dec. 10, you can participate in the Jingle Jog organized by 311 Endurance Sports beginning at noon. The events will include a 5k run and a one-mile Fun Run for people of all ages.
After working up a thirst by running or watching running, beginning at 3 p.m. people are invited to participate in the Santacon Bar Crawl. Proceeds and donations from the Otis & Wawa’s annual Santacon fundraiser will benefit Kidsmas Miracle 2022.
Plu,s if you participate in both the Jingle Jog and the Santacon Bar Crawl, the price of the tickets is discounted.
Downtown Greensboro’s ice skating rink, Piedmont Winterfest, will be in LeBauer Park this year from Friday, Nov. 18 to Sunday, Jan. 29.
Tinsel Town has moved indoors this year and will be held in the Greensboro Cultural Arts Center on Davie Street from Friday, Dec. 2 to Saturday, Dec. 31. Tinsel Town will feature 50 Christmas trees purchased and uniquely decorated by a corporation, group, nonprofit or family. People get to vote for their favorite tree and the top five will receive $500 donations.
Those who choose to do some of their holiday shopping at a participating downtown business have a chance to win $500 for themselves and $500 for the business where they shopped if they sign up for the Merry Madness Passport program from Monday Nov. 28 to Friday, Dec. 23.
Sounds nice but will pass. Christmas was not even mentioned so why support down town?
Is Christmas the only holiday? Keep Christ in Christmas but keep Christ out of everything else, ok?
So when Mandate Mayor and the Zack Pack wanna party it’s ok to block streets and sidewalks with all manner of objects and have amplified noise every 1/2 blocks? How is this any different than what Mandate Mayor and The Zack Pack just outlawed downtown. Guaranteed their will be plenty of folks that will be violating all the new rules at these events but they get a pass because why? Hypocrites and authoritarians need to keep up the bread and circus I guess. Also not to be a downer but how much does this cost taxpayers? Who benefits and gets paid?
