Last December, Downtown Greensboro Inc. (DGI) reinvented the Christmas Parade in the time of COVID-19 and is now doing the same for the traditional Easter egg hunt in 2021.
DGI’s Eggstravaganza, being held from Thursday, April 1 through Saturday, April 3, is not the typical Easter egg hunt for toddlers with baskets. In fact, it would be difficult for a toddler with a basket to participate unless that toddler had a smart phone in the other hand.
The way the Eggstravaganza works is you are invited to visit any of the participating businesses downtown and search for the hidden egg hunt sign.
You should then take a photo of the sign with your phone and show that photo to one of the business’s employees. You then get a prize egg for your efforts and that egg may contain gift cards, candy, merchandise and more.
One lucky winner will find the golden egg, which features an overnight stay at the Downtown Greensboro Marriott.
There is a limit of one egg per person per business, so visiting multiple businesses increases your odds of winning the grand prize as well as filling up your Easter basket with prizes that are age-appropriate for children to adult.
Businesses also have a limited number of eggs, so it’s wise to shop early as well as often.
Participating businesses include:
Baked Downtown
Biltmore Hotel
Black Belt Soap Company
Boho Salon
Bonchon
Cheesecakes by Alex
Deep Roots Market
Green Bean
Hudson’s Hill
Just Be
Little Brother Brewing
Luxe Fragrance Bar
Mellow Mushroom
Natty Greene’s
NextDoor Beer and Bottle Shop
ReAligned
Savor the Moment Bakery
Scuppernong Books
Something BARowed
Stumble Stilskins
Vintage to Vogue
And, of course, all of the normal COVID-19 protocols should be followed on the Eggstravaganza, which means wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing, washing your hands and staying at home and reading about the winner if you feel sick.
Why not have the kids look for “clues” or evidence of damages and recent repairs caused by rioters & looters from last summer? It would serve as a valuable lesson as to why we don’t destroy our town and its businesses for any reason or “cause.” Civilized people work out their issues in more personal and, more importantly, legal ways. We keep our streets & businesses tidy and clean, don’t need to paint over them for anyone or anything. We fight for rights, justice, & causes in a civil manner without blocking traffic or shouting obscenities. And for those who don’t behave appropriately, well, those are called speed bumps.
Uh, Oh! PC-Cancel-Culture alert! The term “Easter” Egg is no longer acceptable. Sez Cadbury Chocolate.
This is magical.
