The Greensboro City Council is scheduled to discuss the “Community Heroes Homebuyer Program” at the work session on Thursday, Oct. 27.
According to the presentation, just about anyone who makes between 80.01 percent and 120 percent of the area median income (AMI) and isn’t employed by a for-profit business qualifies for the program.
The list of those considered “Community Heroes” and qualify for the program is:
- City of Greensboro, Guilford County, State of North Carolina, and federal government employees
- Guilford County public school teachers and administrators
- University and college faculty and staff
- Non-profit organization employees
- Military (Active duty, Reservists, National Guard members and Coast Guard Personnel)
- Military Veterans
- Other first responders (i.e. EMS/paramedics, healthcare workers)
The income range for a one-person household to qualify for up to $25,000 in down payment and closing cost assistance with “no minimum investment from the buyer” is from $40,901 to $61,300. The loan of up to $25,000 is forgiven at the end of the loan term. Forgiven means that it doesn’t have to be paid back.
The income range for a two-person household is $46,751 to $70,100.
The income range for a four-person household is from $58,400 to $87,600.
Home buyers who qualify for the program would also be eligible for an additional $5,000 in assistance for buying a home in reinvestment and redevelopment areas. So the maximum assistance in those areas would be $30,000.
According to the presentation the Community Heroes Program will foster wealth building opportunities for moderate-income residents serving the community, enable the workforce to live in the place they serve, encourage stability in Greensboro neighborhoods, promote the affordable homeownership goals of Housing GSO and will strengthen Greensboro as an employer of choice.
The funding for the program will come from the 2022 bonds.
Under the proposed program no minimum investment from the homebuyer is required and they can receive up to $2,500 back at closing.
Isn’t this reparations in another form
Yes.
And why do African-Americans require reparations? If I were one, I would get on my knees and thank God that someone took my ancestors out of Africa, and caused me to be born here.
Do you disagree?
Would you prefer to be living in Ghana?
Who has authorized this woke council to give away taxpayer dollars. Let’s put this idea on a special agenda for a citywide vote in the spring and then see how the taxpayers feel
It would pass, just like everything we put on the ballot
Another horrible program from our “leaders”. Are they saying that if you work for the city or a non-profit, you’re a hero who needs financial assistance, but if you’re a struggling single parent trying to make a living at a convenience store or delivering for Amazon, you don’t count? That’s very discriminatory. Everyone who works and helps provide goods and services to the community is an important part of that community, and thus a hero. And I dare say that many non-profits and their staff are less productive and provide less value than the stock person at your favorite grocery store. With this proposal it sounds like the city is telling most of us “you don’t matter, except to pay taxes.”
No comment necessary. I paid for my home, you pay for yours. My ex was a schoolteacher. She paid for her own home, we paid for ours.
our only hope is to get these enablers out of office.
Ah yes the classic “transfer of wealth” from Mandate Mayor and her cabal of grifters and weasels. How about tax relief for everyone instead of handouts to folks unable to succeed in private business and probable left leaning voters? What a waste of time and resources. Criminal misuse of office and having terrible legal advice will surely be Mandate Mayor’s legacy along with crushing debt, rampant homelessness, decimated police force, and crumbling infrastructure.
No strings giveaways need to cease. Self responsibility needs a rebirth.
NO!!
The following should NOT QUALIFY!
City of Greensboro, Guilford County, State of North Carolina, and federal government employees
University and college faculty and staff
The other groups on this list are due some help.
With the over generous fringe benefits offered those listed above there is no way I can support this.
Well, when does it stop? The Greensboro City Council must have a hidden forest of money trees. Please let me know know when they start to harvest these trees. I want to be on the receiving end for once in my life.
Man you talk about having money that is burning a hole in the City’s pocket. Please stop this throwing money away and put it where it is really needed. Support police and fire and first responders.
I have an idea let’s increase their salary and hire some real heroes, police officers. Crime is already up when we become a relocation center we just might need them a full Staff of police officers.
Guess council only meets to figure out how to spend out tax dollars….more social BS
The barefaced self-serving venality of the left wing City Council is as shameless as it is obscene.
The Parasitic Sector is explicitly excluding from these benefits any person who works in the tax paying Productive Sector. It’s just disgusting.
And we all know that “Community Heroes” means liberal heroes. No young entrepreneur who starts a business, provides a living to his employees, creates wealth and supports these parasites through his taxes has a chance of being acclaimed as a Community Hero – but he is the REAL hero.
Wouldn’t these payments be considered taxable income for Government employees? Legitimate employers cannot provide such benefits without it being fully taxed at the state and federal levels.
Sounds like redistribution of wealth! The wealth of of the taxpayer. When my family was starting out in life we worked and saved our money to eventually buy a home. I believe that is the way the the current citizens should get their homes.
How about some tax relief for seniors living on small fixed incomes ? We’re really feeling all this Bidenflation, and then the city and county raised our property taxes by 30%. And now they want to give away more of our tax $$$ to working folks?
NO !
One thing I don’t understand, as an otherwise eligible local first responder, is why the *minimum* salary is so high. Based on salary and household size, I don’t make *enough* money to get the handout or whatever this is…go figure.
????
And what will this do for the already tight housing market, besides drive prices straight upward?
Well goodness….I sure didn’t see Law Enforcement in that cute little list. Surely with what the powers that be pay them THEYare certainly qualified.
Is this the affordable housing they are always talking about?
We worked for the County in Emergency Services. We were both volunteer firefighters for County fire departments. My husband is still on the Board of his fire department. We would never consider taking this money from taxpayers, from ourselves. This idea, this robbery…there are no words. This is disgusting. I object. No. At least it only affects the City at this time, but it’s wrong, just wrong.
It really is disgusting, isn’t it? The people who are riding in the wagon are using their power to force others to hand over their earnings, so they can personally profit.
Disgusting. And shameless.
“Community Hero” = Community Activist = Jobless Leftist Busybody.
Why do I think the people that are, to some extent, deserving/needing the assistance of this program
Teachers
Military (Active duty, Reservists, National Guard members and Coast Guard Personnel)
Military Veterans
Other first responders (i.e. EMS/paramedics, healthcare workers)
going to be far, far, FAR outnumbered by the non-deserving/needing groups such as:
City of Greensboro, Guilford County, State of North Carolina, and federal government employees
Guilford County public school
University and college faculty and staff
Non-profit organization employees
Oh, I forgot, got to buy votes some how.
