The City of Greensboro is asking residents to help furnish homes for people transitioning out of homelessness through a new program called Housing First Plus.
According to a city press release issued Thursday, May 8, the city’s Community Safety Department is seeking donations of furniture and household items for the initiative – which is designed to move some of Greensboro’s most vulnerable residents from the street into stable housing while also providing intensive case management services.
The pilot program will work with 20 people and it combines intensive case management with incentives and support for participating landlords. The city said that some clients could begin moving into unfurnished homes as early as Monday, June 1.

According to the city, the Community Safety Department focuses on public safety initiatives that include violence prevention, crisis intervention services and intensive case management for people dealing with issues such as mental health challenges, substance abuse and homelessness.

I would much rather donate goods then money. You can’t pocket mattresses.
I don`t know which is the joke, but obviously someone cannot be serious. First, our property taxes take a spike. Second, the county manager is considering a large tax hike. And now, you are asking donations to furnish housing for the homeless? THIS IS WHAT THE MONEY RECEIVED FROM THE TAXES SHOULD BE SPENT ON–the citizens of the community, not incentive packages for businesses who will only6 stay as long as the packages exist, not for large pay raises and pet projects of commissioners and other officials, and not for retreats to waste taxpayer money!
So where are all my taxes going? The city and county want more tax dollars ….I suggest the city and county stop inviting the homeless to come live here. I suggest the pet projects be eliminated. I suggest the city and county eliminate the govt employee bloat they have created. I suggest the city and county begin to take care of tax paying citizens instead of abusing them with more waste, DEI bloat, and numerous pet projects doing the same thing just using a different name. Hope you will use your vote wisely.
Jv,
Please be careful my friend. You may find that they have “…sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.”
As for the “…govt employee bloat they have created.” and continue to create that is, a small, legal way of buying votes.
Those of us that think like you do try to use our vote wisely. The problem is the 2 bought votes that counter ours.
I don’t object to donating gently used items for this purpose. The city or county cannot afford to furnish housing for the homeless. The community is being asked to help. Why not? If you would donate an item to charity, why not donate to the homeless?
strongly agree with you on this one.
For sure lets give money so it will attract more people to come to Greensboro and live off our dime. COMMON SENSE PEOPLE!
Define who are,”Greensboro’s most vulnerable residents”? Are these residents truly in need, unable to work, taking care of special needs children, adults or residents who do not work, have not worked in years expecting handouts from those who work?
How about a program for the city to hire the ,”Greensboro’s most vulnerable residents”, if this is the case and move them to a new safer location? Those living who are able bodies to work, but refuse should have any aid cutoff if not looking for employment. Right or wrong, just MY opinion.
Why ask the taxpayers when many are unable to meet their financial responsibilities due to the higher cost of living, higher taxes, higher gas, etc…?
not a f&*(^&g chance. you “need” it? you can use extorted tax money.
You raise some good points. However, there is an immediate need for housing. Satisfy the immediate need and then immediately get to work fixing the problem.
the apartments recently completed across the downtown st from me are NOT filling up @ the initial/hoped for rent asked. builders MUST profit to create housing, farmers MUST profit to create food . . . teachers MUST profit . . .
