The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department is celebrating National Parks & Recreation Month in July with a variety of activities, including youth sports clinics, outdoor recreation, live music workshops and community events.
The month’s activities begin Tuesday, July 7, with the first of four Youth Golf Clinics at Gillespie Golf Course.
The department has scheduled the following events during July:
Youth Golf Clinics — Tuesdays, July 7, 14, 21 and 28, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Gillespie Golf Course, 306 E. Florida St. Youth ages 10-18 will learn the fundamentals of golf, and equipment will be provided. The cost is $40 per participant for all four sessions.
Teen Night @ The Rec — Wednesday, July 8, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Lindley Recreation Center, 2907 Springwood Drive. Activities include laser tag, glow-in-the-dark dodgeball, basketball, skating and more.
Youth Volleyball Clinic — Monday, July 13 through Wednesday, July 15, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Greensboro Sportsplex, 2400 Sixteenth St. The clinic is for children ages 6-12 and is designed to build volleyball skills while encouraging participation and healthy habits. The cost is $80 per participant.
Speed Friending — Friday, July 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at LoFi Park on the Downtown Greenway, 500 N. Eugene St. The event is for adults ages 21 and older and is designed to help participants meet new people through guided conversations. Registration is required.
Beats & Bops: DJ Workshop — Saturday, July 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Downtown Greenway’s Morehead Park Trailhead, 475 Spring Garden St. Participants will learn the fundamentals of beat-making through a hands-on electronic music workshop featuring four one-hour sessions during the day.
Mental Health Matters — Monday, July 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Downtown Greenway Meeting Place at the intersection of West Smith Street and Prescott Street. The program will feature discussions and resources from local practitioners focused on mental health awareness and self-compassion. Registration is required.
Mountain Bike Mini Camp — Tuesday, July 21 through Thursday, July 23, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Lake Higgins, 4235 Hamburg Mill Road. The camp is for children ages 8-13 and teaches mountain biking skills and techniques. The cost is $75 per participant, and registration is required.
Intro to American Sign Language — Sunday, July 26, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cairn’s Course on the Downtown Greenway, 501 Guilford Ave. Presented with the N.C. Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, the beginner class introduces participants to basic American Sign Language in an outdoor setting. Registration is required.
