At 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, High Point will have some talented visitors from the other side of the world come to town. At that time, the High Point-Thomasville HiToms baseball team will host the Chinese Taipei National baseball team at Truist Point Stadium in High Point.

The Taiwan National Team is touring the US right now. Among the team’s former players is current High Point Rocker outfielder Dai-Kang Yang – who played for the national team in several World Baseball Classics.

The official name of the team – Chinese Taipei – carries a lot of significance. China’s leaders consider the island of Taiwan to be part of China, while Taiwan has been struggling for independence for decades. The name “Chinese Taipei” is a compromise name for the team that was agreed upon in the early 1980s.

The team from Asia – which is generally composed of pros from Taiwan’s Chinese Professional Baseball League, some US players and others – has in the past won Asian Baseball Championships as well as medals in Olympic games.

After visiting High Point to play the HiToms, the Chinese Taipei team will play Team USA in Kannapolis, North Carolina. That game will be on Sunday, July 2.

The HiToms are members of the Coastal Plain League and their roster includes top college players from around the country.

Tickets for the game at Truist Point are $15 for adults and $12 for children for Home Plate Box and Catalyst Club Seating in sections 105 through 111. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for children in Infield and Outfield Box Seats in sections 101 through 104 and sections 112-117.
