When people think of beer and music, it’s not usually classical music that comes to mind, which is what makes the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra (GSO) HOPS series stand out.

The GSO will be holding the first performance of its 2019-2020 HOPS Series on Sunday, Oct. 6 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Preyer Brewing Company at 600 Battleground Ave.

Single tickets for the HOPS Series are $20, and for that small fee you not only get a 90-minute performance featuring the GSO String Quartet but also a custom pint glass, a beer to make it useful and more.

The GSO String Quartet will play three 20-minute sets of classical favorites, pop standards and a “wildly popular” name that tune game with a chance to win free tickets, prizes and swag.

There is also a special HOPS Series brew, dubbed Bachtoberfest in honor of the traditional German beer drinking holiday. Bachtoberfest is a lightly malted, traditional Oktoberfest beer made with 100 percent North Carolina malt, and was so popular when it was originally released last year during the inaugural HOPS Series that it’s being brought back for an encore.

Only 130 tickets will be sold for the event and it is expected to sell out. Tickets can be purchased at http://greensborosymphony.org/concerts/hops-series/
