EVs Are A Bad Joke
Dear Editor,
As US consumer demand for electric vehicles collapses, Volkswagen furloughs workers at its EV factories, Hertz dumps 20,000 unloved Teslas, and two London hybrid/electric buses spontaneously ignite and go up in flames in as many days. Surely even the most naive tree hugging leftist can see that these vehicles are a bad joke, and a technological dead end.
In a few decades the EV experiment will be looked on with derision, just as we scoff at early “airplanes” that flapped their wings furiously in an attempt to imitate the birds.
There may be no limit to human ingenuity, but there is also no limit to human stupidity.
Austin Morris
Austin,
I just saw a news report about EVs in those states currently experiencing extreme cold weather and how folks are having charging problems to the point the cars are basically worthless due to an inability to charge or charge very little.
Funny how Doddering Uncle Joe and his cronies failed to add those points to their dog and pony shows. But hey, what do they care. Those problems are for the peons and peasants.
————–
You’re right Alan!
I too saw several reports of “dead” Teslas and other EVs having to be towed. They just don’t work in low temperatures. Even people who live close to charging stations were stranded, because the charging stations either didn’t work or were charging at a fraction of the normal rate.
As Wayne says below, how would you like your car to take 6 hours to fill up?
Classic misinformation from Austin. Note the lack of any data or any reliable source.
Americans purchased one million fully electric vehicles in 2023, the first time that many EVs have ever been sold in this country in a single year per Cox Automative. Not exactly collapsing. A few other interesting data points that counter Austin’s misinformation:
Worldwide, EVs made up 15% of new passenger vehicle sales.
Worldwide EV sales (includes both hybrid and fully EV) rose 31% in 2023 to hit 13.6 million units, according to market research firm Rho Motion.
In the U.S., EV sales made up 7.6% of total car sales in 2023, up from 5.9% in 2022, according to Kelly Blue Book estimates.
If Austin has any other data sources, I hope he will share. More likely, he wants his misinformation to be true so limits what he ‘believes’ to those news items that fit his false narrative. Kinda like most modern conservatives tend to do these days.
Everything I said is true, and Chrissy can’t disprove a single word.
Google any of it for yourselves, folks.
[ The London buses story was on GBNews ]
So data shows EVs grew market share in the US and globally yet you claim the market for EVs is in collapse. Do you understand the definition of collapse? I guess not. Just like you don’t understand hate can be both a noun and a verb.
—————-
“Data show”… “Research shows”… “Experts say”….. These are all phrases used by intellectual midgets, sheep who are incapable of thinking for themselves. They are natural Leftists, since that is the default position for empty vessels.
It’s common knowledge that dealers’ lots are filling up with unwanted EVs. Chrissy cannot accept this, intellectually or emotionally, so he resorts to his usual “where is your data” fall back. We could claim that the Moon revolves around the Earth and his response would be the same.
I’ll let the readers do their own digging on consumer demand for EVs. That way, you’ll see for yourselves.
———
Share your data source. I gave my data that showed you wrong. Oh right, you don’t like sources. You believe you know better than and conveniently find any counter sources lies…like all good misinformation nutters. LOL.
PS
“Data” is plural and so requires the correct verb form “show”, not “shows”.
And “hate” is a verb. The corresponding noun is “hatred”.
——-
Being lectured on English by a moron like you always makes me smile….
Car is also a noun. What does that have to do with hate being a noun. Yes, Hatred is a noun just as Hate can be a noun. For example:
“”feelings of hate and revenge”. Are you suggesting that the noun in this sentence should be “feelings of hater and revenge”? Lol
To make it clearer: This is quote from stakeexchange, com
Hate is a verb, while hatred is a noun. Although hate can also be used as a noun, hatred is not a verb. From an intensity viewpoint, and when used in a noun context, there is no difference between hate and hatred. The word hate is more abstract, while hatred is more directed and concrete.
But you be you.
Rambling, incoherent gibberish from Chrissy… as usual.
Here is an actual article with actual facts, if anyone is interested. If you want to learn about things that directly impact someone’s wallet, go to a source that focuses on finance and economics, not yahoo or cnn, etc.
https://money.com/why-americans-not-buying-electric-cars/ (Nov 1, 2023)
“In just the last few weeks, EV leader Tesla slashed its prices once again; Ford reduced production of its F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck and postponed $12 billion of EV spending; Mercedes-Benz CFO Harald Wilhelm described the EV market as a “brutal space” as the company continues to discount vehicles; General Motors delayed three model launches and backed off a public goal of producing 400,000 EVs by the middle of next year; and Honda announced it was ending plans with GM to jointly develop affordable EVs.
Over at Toyota, which has prioritized hybrids over EVs, Chairman Akio Toyoda told reporters that “people are finally seeing reality.” Despite EV tax credits of up to $7,500, fewer Americans are ready to switch to EVs than automakers or government officials thought.”
Yes, Chris, sales probably did still increase in 2023, but it’s like the roller coaster that’s just coming over the top. I’m putting my arms in the air as I await the ride down. EV’s are one of the biggest farces in American History.
“Come one, come all and buy this car that’s made entirely of petroleum-based plastic, dangerous chemicals, and metal, all of which had to be mined, processed, and transported with non-eco-friendly methods and gas-powered machinery. Yes, come see us ‘save the Earth’ as we recharge their batteries daily from coal fired power plants!”
So, so, so dumb that anyone believes this is helping anything. The technology and infrastructure just are not there yet dude.
Good post.
Factual, impartial, and indisputable – (but our Village Idiot will still cavil over something).
Thanks for the source. Refreshing to see here. The article is well balanced and is predicting a slump in sales given this quote:
“It may appear that the EV revolution is slowing down, but our data doesn’t corroborate that,” she says, noting that EV sales have increased 12 quarters in a row. “Automakers are not stalling on EVs, but instead, adjusting to a pace that is more sustainable for efficient growth without over-saturating the market.”
They could be right as they have saturated the early adopters and have yet to beat the cost and convince of gas cars. Time will tell.
Still point out Austin made up idea that EV sales collapsed given that even you admit that EV sales grew in 2023.
——-
No, I said that US demand for EVs is collapsing, not that “EV sales collapsed”. There is a difference in meaning, but stupid people won’t see it. You know, people like you.
——-
Way to pick out a quote expressing someone’s opinion from a fact based article. Yes, Chris, if I sold zero cars in quarter one, three cars in quarter two, and ten cars in quarter three, those are all technically increases. That’s about the most we can get from your quote. All fledgling industries, even those that fail, initially go through some period of growth from zero to whatever as people try the item for the first time and decide if it is something they will continue to buy. We are now entering the phase where people realize EVs are not practical for long hails, don’t help the environment, etc.
How about the rest of the article that talks about all of the back pedaling the industry is having to do? Not to forget my own personal comments about the hypocrisy of these “green” vehicles.
No where in this article you share does it say Demand is dropping. Just that “According to experts, here are some of the big reasons the demand for EVs isn’t as high as some want it to be…” It then goes on to talk about why EVs are not yet ready to directly compete with Gas powered cars.
The industry is still relying on first and early adopters as the cost benefit just isn’t there and the infrastructure isn’t there and the tech has some bugs to work out still. But demand isn’t collapsing per this article. So again Austin. Sale are up…More manufacturing are entering or increasing the number of models being made…where is the data supporting a collapsing demand?
I will wait.
Multiple and numerous reports of cratering EV demand are easily found, as Don has pointed out.
But you keep living in your little pretend world, Chrissy.

PS Asheville spent $616,000 EACH on 5 electric buses just a couple of years ago and only TWO are still in service, and they’re only able to travel of 78 miles – 78 miles! – before having to return and sit idle for hours to recharge.
Ha, ha, ha, ha…!
There are plenty of article showing dead EV’s in Chicago, go to yahoo ,one of the most Liberal pages on the internet
So chris if this administration is so keen on EVs why ate not all the state department vehicles that they all use NOT EVs. Just look at everything lined up outside the House and Senate not a single EV to be found
Fair question. My guess is The EV market is still in the early adopter stage as the technology clearly has bugs to work out. In addition, I am not certain the cost benefit model yet works for EVs or Hybrids. As the scale grows and the support infrastructure grows and works out it’s kinks, I would think you would see more and more EVs in government fleets.
I am personally not an early adopter of new tech. I like the kinks to be worked out and the prices to come down before I invest in such new tech. I do however, hope it works. I love the idea of less maintenance for EV (no oil changes, fewer parts to break down, etc….).
Just found this article about GSO investment in EVs.
https://www.wfmynews2.com/article/news/local/greensboro-company-picked-to-expand-electric-school-bus-fleet-nc/83-467ede91-484e-4a12-a62a-2cb485d4c5bc
The empty downtown trollies that endlessly circle the area are gas powered. What a huge waste of time, money, and emissions. So green. Hypocrites.
Excellent point Rebel. I was thinking the same thing.
Of course you’re not going to get an answer but will get attacked because Chrissy has no fact backed, justifiable answer\.
When all else fails the ignorant attack
Lol, Alan jumps the gun again with his silly accusations. When do I never not reply? lol And I always include a source or data to support my opinions In this case I gave a local example from local news given his question was for an opinion versus data. I understand like most modern conservatives your go to strategy is to deflect your own failings by accusing them of the same without any justification as you never include data or sources with your silly drama fill rants.
I offer real data about car sales but Austin says its obvious lots are stuck with unsold EVs. Yet offers no data or source. Are we to assume he has traveled the country and eyeballed all the EV cars on all the sales lots across the country. Or is he just making things up to feed her personal bias? LOL, modern conservatives are so gullible and predictable.
And yet we voted them into office!
Seems like those early airplanes flapping their wings to imitate the birds have been flying commercially high in the sky for over 100 years. Is it your point that the Wright Brothers were simply stupid?
Missed the point entirely, Ray.
And airliners do not flap their wings.
I wish my grandson would flap his wings out of my house.
Totally spot-on, Austin. Thanks for sharing this. These leftist elitists validate a view I’ve held for over 20 years in that socialism is the grossest form of stupidity ever inflicted on humanity.
The Left is serious about EVs, this is another way to gain control of people. Force them to buy what is far from convenient and cost-effective. Some, day there will be a viable alternative that will surface. Such a breakthrough will come from FREE ENTERPISE. Our govt does not create anything but destruction.
What is going on in Davos, Switzerland right now is a conference to enable world control by Big Govt/business. The WEF is one the world’s biggest dangers; it is on the way to a World govt. Of the three biggest players are Bill Gates, George Soros, and Larry Fink. Choose your despot.
Who is forcing anyone to buy EVs? Sounds like you listen to too much conspiracy talk radio. I recommend you tighten up on your tinfoil hat and go hide in your bunker.
You will only realize your freedom’s gone when it’s gone. And then it will be too late.
They’re trying to push us all into electric sleds because they can shut down our freedom with the flip of a switch. They can’t do that with gas powered cars – which is why they’re waging a war on them.
I will say again:
I am as free today as I was in the 80s. The only real change is technology and how it has eroded privacy. But most of that erosion is from big tech selling our data to highest bidders. I still drive what I want to drive, live where I want to live, socialize with whoever I like, worship in whatever way I like, marry who ever I like (although republicans want to control this), read whatever I want to read (although republicans want to control this), and go where ever I want to go to do what I ever I enjoy doing for recreation, receive any medical care I need (although republicans want to control this), and most importantly share my opinions openly on any topic I choose.
So again, I ask the drama queens…what is the specific freedom I am losing because of our current government? From where I sit, it seems the Right want’s to control my life more than the left does.
*******
PS I submitted this letter before our cold snap. Fox News is now picturing dozens of Teslas in New Hampshire, Maine and other Northern states being towed away from charging stations by tow trucks, because not only do the cars not work, neither do the charging stations!! What a joke these virtue signalling sleds are.
Overpriced, overhyped and overrated.
I feel sorry for the suckers who fell for them.
*******
You sound like the horse and buggy crowd making fun of the motor car.
In extreme cold even regular cars have to heat their batteries to start the car. They will figure out a solution.
But I will go ahead and say it here…. climate change is real, it is a serious threat to our kid’s future, and it is a man-made problem requiring a lot of different man-made solutions. The science is clear to anyone who doesn’t have an agenda to support big oil….you know, like conservatives suckling on the tit of big oil donations.
….. And you sound like someone who’s not going to let the facts get in the way of his opinion.
I provided data on EV sales that counter your argument that EV sales are collapsing. Where is your data? Sources?
I am happy to consider alternative points of view when provided data and reputable sources. You and Alan just never seem to offer any. LOL
Don has provided the hard data (above).
Sane people know that EVs are an answer in search of a question, a question that doesn’t exist.
Only leftist sheep like you swallow the KoolAid, Chrissy.
I actually pity you.
I’ll say this. If another arrogant tesla driver passes me on double yellow, I’m putting them in the ditch.
Did we all not watch the Lorax? The EV is a “Thneed” and our lovely landscape has forever been devastated by the megasite promising many things that have yet to come true. Instead of rezoning, blasting, grading, flooding and destroying our natural areas, let’s protect our trees, landscapes, and family farms. Did you know Agriculture is a $103 billion industry in N.C.? Did you know N.C. is the second most threatened state for Farmland loss? If we continue in the direction of development and growth, we will have lost the total size of the state of Delaware in Farmland by the year 2040. All true statistics provided by North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
This particular stupidity was enabled and promoted by our criminal ruling class, the politicians’ massive subsidies (of taxpayer money) and coercive mandates. In a free society with a free market, market forces would have quenched this immensely wasteful and impoverishing EV fad via in-depth cost-benefit analysis.
Yep – it’s Solyndra on steroids.
Careful Healey,
You are expressing common sense, logic and facts in your points. That sort of thinking will get you attacked by the mind numbed, fact twisting, wackos that haunt this section. How dare you you unshakable scientific facts.
As for “If Austin has any other data sources, I hope he will share.”, I would say you need to practice what you are preaching. Basic science proves the effect of cold on batteries, any battery.
I haven’t disagreed that during extreme winter weather EVs have issues now have I Alan? i just pointed out that gas cars have issues with extreme winter weather as well and that EV industry will figure it out in time just as combustion engine cars did.
The misinformation in Austin letter is that EV sales are collapsing. He offered no data or sources to back this so I checked…and sure enough the data says something very different then the guy who we know hates EV, denies climate change is an issue and man-made. Paint me shocked.
Government supports a great number of industries for different reasons. Take farming for example. It is receiving billions in subsidies ($15 billion in 2022). The EV industry is driving a great deal of innovation in the future of batteries that will help with the climate change issue. (but is in no way the silver bullet to the problem). I suggest it is a good an investment as support farming.
Nothing to do with farming.
How is promoting the strip mining of heavy metals that will later be dumped into landfills when the batteries are thrown away in any way helping with climate change? The whole vehicle, especially the battery is manufactured with petroleum based products, chemicals, and metals that have to be mined and none of the mining is done in an eco friendly way. Hypocrisy hidden behind the mask of righteousness.
On my way to Mebane today, my fuel tank was on empty, after only 411 miles of driving. So I stopped, filled the tank, and was back on the highway, all in about seven minutes. Try that with an EV!
Internal combustoin engines simply help burn up our planet….We have got to get rid of them…The technology has gotten better and better. The UK is banning gas engine cars in the next decade. All countries should do the same. I am not a tree hugger but a proud Son of the South.
And King Cnut forbade the tide from coming in.
Cracks me up they make fun of the extreme cold issue given that it is also an issue with combustion engines. That is why they have engine block heaters. Just need something similar for EVs. Most EV drivers understood this but some that are not used to extreme cold failed to u derstand the issue and tried to charge their car without a heater. Live, learn, adapt, move on.
Extreme cold no problem at all for ICE (Internal Combustion Engines). That’s why they’re used in Antarctica.
——
Sorry to use facts to burst your bubble, Chrissy.
It must be an interesting little World you live in…
Yes, but only with engine block warmers applied to the motor first (especially if diesel) at extreme cold temp such as -20 or -40 depending on the type of engine and oil in the car.
Car oil has also been greatly improved over the years to work better in cold temps but it has taken a lot of innovation to overcome the issues of older cars and oils. EVs will have similar growing pains. It is why I am not myself an early adopter of new tech generally.
Innovation takes time. But you can sit on your horse buggy and laugh all you want while the adults try to make positive change for our climate and environment as best as they can.
As a soldier who spent 3 years in Alaska I am familiar with the engine block heaters. So by your warped reasoning you need to triple your electric bill.
But I forgot that in your Socialist paradise the government will give you an allocation of electricity to do both. You just have to hope you get enough to do that and power your home.
LOL, most likely they will improve batteries and/or battery warmers. Since no oil is needed in EV motors, you don’t have to heat something as big as an engine block. The tech is still in its early stages of development and new innovations by the adults in the room continue to make great improvements in the tech at an amazing pace. You go ahead sit on our couch watching conservative news and being afraid of the world and change like they want you to be. The adults will continue to work on innovative solutions to the challenging problems our world is facing.
Best wishes.
———-
Could you be more supercilious and condescending…?
My God, you’re an ass**le.
Smug too.
———
Just for the record, I was stationed in Alaska in the mid 70s and they had engine warmers then.
Just sayin’
Much easier in the UK as they have public transportation as the norm versus in the US even major Cities such as Atlanta and Charlotte have very little public transportation that make us rely on cars for even basic needs transportation.
———
And finally…. the inveterately liberal Consumers Reports tries to put a positive spin on the inability of EVs to work in the winter by saying “Lower the cabin heat and drive more slowly” (Alex Knizek).
So the liberals’ idea of progress is that we should all be shivering as we crawl down the road at horse & buggy speed. I guess that’s why they call themselves “Progressives”…
LOL indeed!
