It’s Time To Fix North Elm Street
Dear Editor,
Since July of 2022, anyone that has to drive into or out Greensboro on Elm Street has had to endure some sort of construction that has completely torn up the road and delayed traffic. From Fisher to Cornwallis on Elm Street, the road has been cut up and patched every 20 feet, and these patches have been very haphazardly done. You need a four-wheel-drive suspension to successfully travel into downtown Greensboro and not jar all your teeth loose.
This is really unacceptable for one of the main arteries that leads in and out of downtown.
My question is, when will this construction be completed and will Elm Street be resurfaced from Fisher to Cornwallis to eliminate all the patches?
Thank you,
Mark Painley

We all wax poetic about political philosophy and current national realpolitik, but this excellent publication was born locally and reports on local news much more thoroughly than the facile and shallow News & Record.
So it’s good to see a letter concerning a real and serious local matter.
Fix the bloody potholes ! The feckless public sector has money galore. Do your job, “public servant”.
Don’t hold your breath. Rent a helicopter, or ask your mother in law to drive the car.
what’s the problem. downtown has little traffic day or night. all the traffic is on major arteries outside the downtown. there is just a brief morning and evening pulse.
When I first arrived in Greensboro, all the streets were pothole-free and it was a pleasure driving from A to B. But that was then. Since my arrival, I have no idea what is (not) being spent on our infrastructure. When the per car tax increased from $10 to $30 annually, I was sure the increase would be applied to the roads. After all, it’s a “Greensboro Tax”. What IS being done with those funds? Patching roads is not the answer. The town needs to resurface the entire road especially one which leads to the very core of the city.
Too busy spending $ on B.S. Projects!
Those of you that like water should appreciate the inconvenience. At least the city isn’t waiting until our water system fails to replace the lines.
