Republican House Threat To Democracy
Dear Editor,
The new Republican House majority is a collection of election deniers, QAnon conspiracists and political arsonists hellbent on gaining power at the expense of our democracy. They’ll be in control of the House of Representatives for the next two years and have already shown an inability to govern. They couldn’t even elect House Speaker Kevin McCarthy without historic chaos.
We should all be concerned about their far-right extremist agenda. Already on the chopping block? Our freedom to vote and our right to an abortion.
Rather than focusing on kitchen table issues, these MAGA extremists are pledging to focus on punishing anyone who tried to hold them accountable for their attacks on our democracy, including members and staff of the January 6 Select Committee.
It’s up to us to resist this MAGA House Majority to protect our democracy and our freedoms. We must call out their lies and combat their far-right agenda starting now.
Briana Craven
Wow, right out of the Democrat hand book. How can anyone, outside of an extremist, take your post seriously? You do see why, from post like that, that we are such a divided country. That’s the threat to Democracy.
Sometimes I wonder if we are reading the same news. One example: How is our freedom to vote on the “chopping block?” I read claims that voting rights are being restricted and yet, during my lifetime, opportunities and means of voting as well as registering have only expanded. When I first registered, you had two ways to vote: in person on election day or by an absentee ballot that you had to request in advance and submit by the deadline. No early voting. No ballot drop off boxes. No curbside voting. Anyone paying attention knows registering and voting have become much easier.
Last year, I opted for an absentee ballot. After completing it, I brought it to a Notary Public and was refused notarization because it was a doctor’s office and she had received an email from Cone Health that it was a Class A felony if she was to notarize it. So, Ken, opportunities of voting are being blocked because, get this, my single ballot could be an opportunity for voter fraud.
You should have gone to a different notary who had some sense. They are all over the place. Absentee ballots aren’t just limited to being medically necessary, they are for anyone who won’t be able to go to their voting location on election day. This woman was misinformed or didn’t understand the instructions.
Do you have a problem with showing a ID to vote?
BC – Sounds like you are describing the demonrats! They’ve already done a good job of destroying democracy.
Briana what hole in the ground did you crawl out of. For the last 2 years the Dems have almost run America into the worst economy that we have seen since the Last Dem to do the same thing , his name was Jimmy Carter. Joe Biden is by far the worst of the worst. In 2 years he has almost destroyed everything that America stands for . People were making better than average wage, low unemployment , plenty oil and gas and inexpensive, inflation below 2%, The inflation under Joe over 8%.
It seems to the outsider that the Republicans were in disarray but there was a group that wanted to change the status quo in Washington. To outsiders such as yourself it appeared to be confusion but there was a plan in the madness . This small group was changing rules in the house.
First thing they did was save you and me extra fees and assessment by the IRS . They have reversed that transaction of adding 87,000 IRS agent that would have come after the middle class workers in the US . The Dems preach they never go after the middle class but that’s where most of taxes are levied. The poor are not paying and the rich are going to dance away from it so who is left. The Middle Classeill have to pick up the slack.
Just watch what these Republicans in richthe house will do for you the next two years.
Let’s be specific. What bills have been adopted by the House that threaten voting or abortion? The answer: NONE.
Why do the leftists believe everything they read on TIK-TOK or from some rumor mill? Because they cannot think for themselves or are so ignorant that they accept anything they hear without determining whether it is true or false. These are the people who keep putting Democrats in office and talk about “democracy”. Remember people, we do not have a democracy, we have a republic. If you do not like it hear, Delta is ready when you are. In fact, I will buy your ticket to China or the Soviet Union!
Wow ! Clearly a diatribe based on tinfoil hats and UFO’S.
Let’s revisit this rant in two years and grade it for accuracy.
In the interim let’s all pull together to seek peace and prosperity.
Stop clutching your pearls, take a deep breath, and try to formulate a less hysterical response to your Leftists losing control of the House.
I think you’ll survive the “far right agenda” – which is what, exactly?
Lol…Briana, where have you been the last 6 years? Loads of pixie dust in your article.
L O L
Please do us MAGA people a favor and move to China, Russia, Iran or maybe North Korea where your point of view will be appreciated
The recent House Speaker vote shows that sadly the 20 or so extremist members of the republican party have their leadership blackmailed into feeding their misdirected agenda. The party needs to push each one of them out so the republicans can return to their former glory. But for now they rant about Grooming of children that isn’t happening, or about Critical Race Theory that no one is pushing, etc… when really the ‘Freedom Caucus is all about reducing freedoms of anyone that doesn’t agree with their political views.
Loser each and every one of them. Vote em out.
Keep voting your democrat socialist agenda. You’ll always be happy. Happy trails to you
As an independent I vote for both republican moderates and democrat moderates. For Example I vote for Tillis. He has done his best to avoid the alt right rhetoric and use of DOJ as a political weapon.
I am also a big fan of reducing federal spending on entitlements (federal employee and military penion plans, SS for high income individuals, etc….) and restoring higher tax rates to both wealthy inviduals and corporations. Both in the name of balancing the federal budget. If you consider that a socialist agenda, you are reading different books than I am on governmental policies.
Maybe you should read the Bible
You sound fun. We must have coffee and share a dessert. Maybe take in a good propaganda movie.
Oh, where to begin. So much BS, so little space.
Where and how is our right (duty) to vote in danger? I must have missed something. As for the right to an abortion, you still have the right but it is now on the State level where it belongs. So that’s answering…misconception number two.
as far as the witch hunt that was the Jan 6 Select Committee, while there was things that need to be investigated and people held accountable. I notice the killing of a protester was not only ignored, the person that did it was rewarded while her mother has been arrested for remembering her and the intentional killing of her daughter, and did it by charging her with failure to move during a protest.
As far as having to “protect our democracy and our freedoms”, that is what lead to the results of the election. And the calling out of lies is taking place, but it’s the lies of the (National Socialist)Democrat Party whose is now having their feet held to the fire.
Good try Briana. And I can recommend a good cheese to go along with that w(h)ine.
Let the games begin!!!
More Alan playing his role of sheep repeating right wing talking points.
The Republican party has always run (both state and federal level) on platform to eliminate a woman’s right to abortion.
Protestor being shot WAS investigated and it was determine the that established protocol was followed in defense of the Capitol. (But like most police shootings of unarmed citizens it is the protocol that needs to be changed)
Voting rights have been attacked by conservative groups. Best example is in states that allow citizens to protest individual votes. Over 99 percent were proven to have been protested based off false interpretation of address change data. This was all of course understood by the conservative group that coached their members on how to protest votes of legal citizens.
But good ol Alan repeating the talking points like a good little sheep of the more extremist end of the republican party.
Chris,
You do realize (and I’m giving A LOT of credit there) that everything you wrote did not even come close to what I pointed out.
Chris: “The Republican party has always run (both state and federal level) on platform to eliminate a woman’s right to abortion.”
Alan: “As for the right to an abortion, you still have the right but it is now on the State level where it belongs.”
Chris: “Protestor being shot WAS investigated and it was determine the that established protocol was followed in defense of the Capitol.”
Alan: “as far as the witch hunt that was the Jan 6 Select Committee, while there was things that need to be investigated and people held accountable. I notice the killing of a protester was not only ignored, the person that did it was rewarded…”
Protocol was followed? Please enlighten us on that protocol.
Chris: “Best example is in states that allow citizens to protest individual votes. Over 99 percent were proven to have been protested based off false interpretation of address change data.”
I can’t find where I said anything about this, but you pointed out the absurdity of your own statement “Best example is in states that allow citizens to protest individual votes.” the key words being “…that allow citizens to protest individual votes”. Obviously this means both sides can protest individual votes and it sounds like you’re telling us (National Socialist) Democrats don’t protest individual votes as well? I was born at night, but not last night.
BUZZZZZ…WRONG, but thank you for playing and here is a copy of our home game assuming you can properly read the rules.
But that’s precisely Chris’s M.O., Alan. He twists what you say, paints a heinous position as yours, and then attacks it.
He’s very fond of putting forward “straw man arguments”. It’s one of several specious and reprehensible techniques he uses.
Briana,
Our country is a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy. There is a difference despite what politicians continually tell you.
What you just witnessed in the election of the Speaker was historic but it wasn’t chaotic and actually demonstrated the purpose of a democratic process in a republic where the minority is given their voice and not run over by the majority, which shows the importance of our system of government. It’s what protects minority groups in our country and allows change and discourages the growth of dictatorships or feudal systems of government.
These 20 or so people didn’t claim that the elections weren’t valid, they didn’t demand that QAnon is in charge of a committee, and it seems there are “political arsonists” (cool term) on both sides (Jan. 6th Committee/Russia Committee/SCJ Roberts hearing are examples).
You have the right to vote now and by voting, you can continue to secure your right to vote, and protect the right to abortion as well as other rights you believe in. The same is true for protecting the rights of free speech and expression, freedom of travel and movement between states, freedom to have arms, freedom of choice over medical procedures, freedom over how you educate your kids, and so many other freedoms. You may not agree with everyone else but by voting, we all get a say in our representatives, and hopefully, they are good (ha) stewards of our opinions and legislate well so regulations and laws reflect the people of the US.
Lastly, Briana, understand that both sides, the Dems and GOP, are playing a game and we’re not a part of it. We have to be smart, aware, critical. They don’t want us to discuss, talk, come to an agreement, or meet in the middle. They want us to fight, yell, argue, be on extreme ends instead of realizing that overall we want the same things. We all want to provide a comfortable home for our families, provide food, have transportation, let our kids have a great education and great future, live in peace and calm, and feel safe and secure. We all want to be content and happy. They want us to feel off balance, afraid, and unsure so that they can stay in control because we’ll “need” them to solve the problems they’ve created, and the only way to do that is to continually create chaos.
Don’t let them win. It’s not as bad as they are making things seem. It’s theatre. Those 20 people were brilliant in showing that there are a few people who could control our government and make people actually pay attention to those of us who sit at home shouting at the tv every night, who send emails, who post on our representative’s FB and Twitter pages, knowing they never listen. They made Congress, the Administration, the country, the world listen. Finally, the little guy was heard, all of us no matter what we believed. That meant a lot to everyone, even if it only happens once every 150 years.
That’s how government “of the people, by the people, for the people” works so it doesn’t “perish from the earth”.
A. Lincoln
Deborah,
Please be very careful making factual, logical statements like this with appropriate backup. This could result in the secret enforcement arm of the (National Socialist) Democrat Party and other minions, of which there are at least a couple of people who post here regular, showing up on your doorstep and you end up taking a sudden and unexpected vacation. I would hate to see a fellow (not meaning to be sexist) patriot “go on vacation”.
Hahahahaha A bunch of Republican alarmists (looking at you Alan) get bend out of shape by a Democrat alarmist. Makes me giggle.
Can anybody recommend a good contractor? I really want to expand and make my place in chris and Chris’ head a little nicer.
I have a couple I’ll recommend Alan. We normally get together every Saturday night. Let me know if you need contacts
We all have our right to an opinion, whether others like it or not. Personal attacks are counter productive, and just make people mad.
I only get mad AFTER I consider the source and consider it worthy of my anger instead of my sorrow.
