Equal Rights For All Adults
Dear Editor,
Presidential candidate Nikki Haley has called for competency tests for older presidential candidates.
I am against ageism. I am against discrimination against younger adults, or older adults. I think that all adult citizens should have the right to run for president; that doesn’t mean that you have to vote for them.
The people can decide whether a candidate is competent or not. All adult citizens should have the same legal, political and civil rights. Unfortunately, none of the current candidates support equal rights for all adults.

As regards Presidential candidate Nikki Haley calling for competency tests for older presidential candidates, I think its time for our society to consider an even more radical re-direction of the power of the ballot: giving precedence to the age of the voter when votes are cast.
At present, the votes of citizens of all ages are considered equally; yet the effect of the decisions fall predominantly on the youngest of our citizens. How is this fair? We have people consistently voting against protection of the environment; safety in transportation; improvement of water quality; improvement in the rights of women and minorities, etc. who (in all probability) will be dead in the next 20-30 years. How can we continue to exist as a democracy when voting is so obviously skewed to favor those who will not bear the effect of their irresponsibility?
I say to Ms Haley, let us not stop at your obviously slanted proposal, but instead continue to follow its thread to its logical end: limit the effect of votes by the elderly to 1/3 of the value of the votes by the young.
Perhaps then we’ll start to address the real issues in our country and not allow the fear mongering of the radicals on both sides of the aisle to capture the hearts and souls of the aged and deranged amongst us.

Did it ever occur to you that older adults have the life experiences and have, over the decades, gained wisdom that young folks obviously don’t? We lived through good presidents and bad ones. We suffered thru Obama’s real estate crash, stock market recession, and higher taxes
, plus a summer when gas lines were an afternoon’s entertainment. Then, in 4 years, Trump had American energy Independent, lowered taxes, brought manufacturing home, creating jobs, etc
Of course MSM ignored all his accomplishments, dwelling on his tweets. Unfortunately, young folks have been indoctrinated and cannot think for themselves. The majority of them are not qualified to make good decisions

I agree Chuck. I do think age will be a major factor for Biden to run again (far more than it was in 2020). And even for Trump should he win the nomination.

All’s I know is this: I just turned 60, and I only feel physically older. My Mom just turned 80, and I have noticed an all-over decline in her. I think 80 is too damn old to be running a country. Sorry NOT sorry.

I think if JOE were to run and taken seriously, our nation as a whole will be reverting to a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY. This guy has not no business taking the reins as President when he can barely say 4 sentences without stumbling over half his words. He can’t give a speech longer than about 10 minutes . Then he has to check with puppet master to see what he should do next. He is not capable nor qualified to lead this nation. Twenty years ago maybe , today definitely not. Oh Chuck, where to begin. In NC, at 18, you are legally an adult. And yet, in NC you cannot buy alcohol or run for sheriff. Under the US Constitution, there are minimum age to run for the US House, US Senate or President. There are mandatory retirement ages for certain professions, such as airline pilot. I could go on.
I disagree with with Nicki Haley. But, perhaps we should have ALL presidential candidates take a competency test!
And ALL candidates for president, senate, house, or cabinets should be required to pass a high level security clearance. Just think who that would eliminate!
I’m against ageism also. However in 2021 when I renewed my drivers license at age 74 they reduced my renewal from 8 years to 5 years. I haven’t had a ticket since 1977 and 0 accidents. It’s my understanding that at some point it will be reduced to renewal every 2 years. So I don’t know ?
ANYONE who meets the age & citizenship requirement should be able to run for any office. It is up the VOTER to decide who wins. Unfortunately, the voter don’t know Jack, or just doesn’t bother.
I think that all eligible voters should be required to vote.
Given that people seems to think everyone in DC is an idiot, I would think a such a test should be required of all political candidates. Problem is who would qualify to administer it!

Basically all jobs require require some type of knowledge, previous training, experience, pass testing whether written or oral. Dont you think the person in charge of our entire country who gets involved in everybodies business in the world, ie… giving Ukraine over 100 Billion dollars (wow, what that money could do to end homelessness, child hunger, improve our school education, improve roadways, etc…..right here in the US of A.). Yes, the President should have to pass some type of Cognitive exam to be fir for the position. Do we send young men and women into war without being physically fit, trained on weapons, trained on procedures. Come on people wake up and see that we can do better. We have struggled with high prices in everything.
