Adopt Advanced Clean Truck Standards Now
Dear Editor,
I recently read an article that more than 50 percent of NC public school students sit in classrooms that are within a quarter of a mile of a major road. This increases their exposure to air pollution. As a mom to two young children, I support the Advanced Clean Truck (ACT) standards for medium and heavy-duty trucks. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) wants medium and heavy-duty trucks, that are over 8,500 pounds to go electric. This will reduce by 26 percent the smog-forming nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from the air. I also hope my kids can ride in an electric school bus.
Let’s adopt the ACT rule so that all NC kids can breathe “Tar Heel Blue” skies free from truck pollution.

Great idea! While they’re vaping in the bathrooms and using Fentanyl laced pills we’ll have a giant dump site for used Chinese batteries around the corner, but that Carolina blue sky will go on!
Tina Dow – Better do some research on EVs; they’re not as simple as what you’ve obviously been led to believe.
Good God. They are crawling out from all the rocks these days.
Dig deep into your pockets….those electric trucks are going to cost you dearly.
There is more pollution produced by the car rider line than any traffic the rest of the day.
I think I would be more worried about what they are teaching my children than trucks going electric. Pick a battle that actually makes an impact on our children’s lives
Here’s a thought snowflake. Why don’t you pack your little snowflakes a tofu lunch with extra soy and walk them to school… that will reduce their little leftists carbon footprint by 100%. While you’re at it walk your ass to work too. (Probably working from home) No coal, no natural gas, no electricity, no problem… can you also ask China not to kick our ass while they pollute the planet 100 times as much as America or anyone else except India, while they build up their military? Nah! I’m sure you would rather speak mandarin. SNOWFLAKE! There’s fool born every second and here you are… I’ll take gender studies for a dollar Alex…
Because of people like you my grandkids are doom to have to suffer from the man-made impact of climate change. The impact will be more than just changes in the weather with increased number of hot days. As climate changes, global stability will faulter (like it is beginning to show in South America with disruption to their agriculture based economies.)
But hey, the republicans are going to make sure sex ed doesn’t include anything about LGBTQ community. So we have that going for us.
“People like You”… ?
My, my, what a bigoted remark.
Careful Lyin’ Chris, your bigotry is showing.
Bigotry can’t be applied when addressing a single individual for their personal flaws (in this case ignorance). But I am happy to see you caring about improving your wokism. Good for you Austin.
Oh yes it can! Try talking to a black person and Say “People like you” !
Bigotry is suffered by individuals as well as groups.
And you are a dreadful, prejudiced bigot.
Signed,
“Moonshine swilling redneck” – as you called us once, you bigot.
Where does one begin… ?
We begin by attempting to make real reductions in carbon emissions. THAT is where we begin.
Chris, LETS FN START WITH YOU! Walk your ass to work starting tomorrow. Set the example or shut the hell up.
One more thing… SHOW ME THE SCIENCE.. not Greta’s opinion and certainly not yours!!!! Put up or shut up Al Gore! See ya at the BP yap yap.
I am 100 percent remote work now. My clients have learned to love not paying the 15% travel markup. I put a total of 4k miles on my car last six months. (my farm truck has a few more but I don’t track it).
The science is overwhelming. Doesn’t take but a second to find plenty of easy to read articles on the science. But you be you.
If that’s the true beginning chris get a heavy plastic bag put it over your head zip tie it around your neck and presto a lot less negative carbons in the air. Have a blessed day.
Promoting violence in response to dialog is the #1 sign of ignorance in another person. But you have established that about yourself of many comments posts on this site.
Best wishes.
No, we begin by not lying, and not falsifying evidence.
Right, Lyin’ Chris ?
I tend to believe that MY GOD IS IN CONTROL.?Man on earth will make a mess of things . I had rather protect the children than worry about the EV’s at this time. We are not ready to go ‘ whole hog’ on ev’s at this time . How are we going to get power stations on all roads that need them and enough to power up the number of cars that will need a charge.
Our current need is for the Democrats to throw millions of dollars at the batteries that the cars will need. What will happen to these batteries at the end of their life. Do we have enough landfills to handle all of them.
Why worry? Just put the face masks back on. You know you want them to. Latex gloves, helmets. Maybe bullet proof vests. If any kids still walk to school inhaling toxic fumes, I have not seen them and they stay in all day in filtered air behind plastic barriers. I doubt very much that your children will ride in any school bus. You will drive them in your EV SUV, hopefully to a private school if you are as interested in their well-being as I think you are. BTW Tina, many working and hauling trucks need more power than even gas can give them. Thus the extra $$$ they pay for diesel (which is ridiculous, but that is another subject) The power that batteries will give them will not pull a full load up a small hill I would think. Batteries have evolved very little the last 100 years. They are not ready for the big time yet. Find another project to champion. (suggestion: bringing back the 3 R’s in school or a better system for disposing of useless batteries) This EV trucks thing is a waste of your time for now. Maybe your children’s generation will develop one, but not ready yet.
I have daffodils growing out of my a&*.
Tina, EPA and ATA studies guided by the Biden folks prove that ONE tractor truck of today emits LESS pollutants of all types than 60 truck tractors combined of 30 years ago! To wit: when was the last time you observed large clouds of black or blue smoke spewing from a trucker’s smokestack? Trucking is a clean industry and runs on fossil fuels too.
