Chairman Alston: “The County Won’t Keep All $175 Million A Year – But Your Tax Bill Is Going Up”

Voters Won’t Get A Say On County’s $572 Million Plan

I was only an infantry grunt for 20 years with a high school education (before New Math fortunately) but according to my calculator that comes out to $747 million dollars. Nearly ¾ of a BILLION dollars that Skip and his sycophants want…no, not want, will TAKE from We the People. A major part is to build a new ‘county facility’ (read Palace). Remember the new Sheriff’s facility they built? Remember how much overrun there was on that?

And to add insult to injury they have the male anatomy parts to expect us to believe they “won’t keep” the whole thing for later distribution to their pet NGO projects. As a friend said I was born at night, but not last night.

Skip said “I don’t think we need $175 million in order to balance our budget this year,” Alston told the Rhino Times soon after the new property values came out. “You can quote me on that.” Then why are you doing this to us except because you can. Maybe because you know there will be cost overruns in the building of your new palace, and because your (not our) Board of Education will want more than the $2 BILLION DOLLARS you’ve given them.

Businesses and people are fleeing your Fiefdom because they just plain can’t afford to live here anymore. The quality of life in the cities is sliding and starting to spread to the County. But you don’t care and don’t try to tell us otherwise.

“A major theme of Alston’s comments was growth. He pointed to projections that roughly 27,000 new jobs will be coming to Greensboro and Guilford County over the next three to five years – largely tied to major economic development projects.”

Really? Funny, I haven’t heard anything about this kind of growth. The way I hear it businesses want nothing to do with us because of our taxes. Oh, they are offered these “tax break incentives” (weak ones), but there is a problem…who makes up those “tax breaks”. Oh that’s right, THE ORDINARY TAXPAYERS. I believe this is known as the Skip Alston Two Step.

One thing I keep hearing is Republicans are in the minority…guess who isn’t…unaffiliated voters. ‘Nuff said?

Carpe Diem
