As local history has shown time and time again, the rash of shootings in Greensboro and Guilford County doesn’t slow down during religious holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter – and this year, on Good Friday, there was another shooting.

The Guilford County Sheriff’s Department reported this week that, on Friday, April 7, at around 6:35 p.m., Deputies responded to 7496 Doggett Rd. in Browns Summit regarding a shooting.

According to the report from the Sheriff’s Department, “Upon arrival, Deputies found a 25-year-old male victim who had been shot. EMS transported the victim to a local hospital to treat his injuries.”

In this case, the deputies do have their suspect: As a result of the investigation in the shooting, Sheriff’s Department detectives charged Malik Lamont Scales, a 21-year- old, with “Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Inflicting Serious Injury, Felony Attempted First Degree Murder, and Misdemeanor Assault in the Presence of a Minor.”

On Monday, April 10, 2023, Scales (pictured above) was arrested without incident.

He was served with the warrants and received a $700,000 secured bond.

Though a suspect has been apprehended in this case, the police are still completing information about the events that led to the shooting and they are asking for the public’s help.
