Greensboro is not going to have a mask mandate, according to Mayor Nancy Vaughan.
On Monday, June 6, Vaughan said emphatically and repeatedly that she was not going to impose a mask mandate on the City of Greensboro despite the fact that COVID-19 numbers are up.
Vaughan said, “I’ve not said that we should have a mask mandate and neither has [Winston-Salem Mayor] Allen Joines.”
She added, “I did mention I was going to get a booster. But that’s my decision. People need to make their own decisions. At this point we need to learn to live with COVID.”
The mask mandate rumor for Greensboro and Winston-Salem apparently got started with a press release from Joines on Monday that stated, “Our community is experiencing a rise in the number of positive COVID cases. Our current daily case count is over 140 per day. As you may recall, our target is fewer than 10 cases per day
“Therefore, I am urging our citizens to take precautions to protect themselves and others by wearing a mask indoors. This is particularly important when you are in large groups or in a close setting. If two individuals are wearing a mask, there is less than a 3 percent chance of the virus being transmitted between those two individuals.”
Joines also asked people to get vaccinated and boosted.
Vaughan said that the rumors that she was going to implement a mask mandate in Greensboro were rampant and there wasn’t any truth to them.
But rumors and false information about mask mandates seem to be par for the course during the COVID era.
When the Guilford County Board of Commissioners meeting as the Guilford County Board of Health voted unanimously to immediately lift the mask mandate on Feb. 17 of this year, the News & Record reported that the repeal of the mask mandate went into effect on Feb. 27.
Chairman of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners Skip Alston had to clarify that lifting the mask mandate immediately meant lifting the mask mandate immediately. Guilford County had issued a press release titled, “Commissioners Vote to Repeal Mask Mandate Immediately,” but somehow that notice was misinterpreted.
It seems obvious, but people are of course free to wear masks whenever and wherever they choose, and likewise, individual businesses can require their employees and customers to wear masks, if they choose to do so.
But according to Vaughan there will be no new mask mandate for the City of Greensboro.
Mandate Mayor shuttered our fair city for statistical reasons far less than what we ate experiencing now. However an election is looming so for the next month or so Mandate Mayor will propose tax cuts and other popular ideas like true freedom and liberty that she regularly tramples on. Remember this is the career politician that promised not to run for reelection again until handed lots of slushy funds from the federal government and some of these large multi jurisdictional projects. Mandate Mayor has had zero qualms about stifling speech, assemblies, the press, to bear arms, or even being transparent about public meeting times, content, and agendas.

Alex – you are 100% correct! It’s easy to know which playbook these fool politicians will use on any given day.
Unless informed citizens get out and vote in July, Vaughn will be re-elected. Vaughn has, in the past, won the support of Black preachers. I suspect she will this time around. She will win again unless voters who see her for what she is get out and vote against her. Low voter turnout favors incumbents.
Shuttered our fair city? Get bent. We shut down when the virus was killing people globally and overwhelming national hospitals. Now the virus is basically a head cold with very low hospitalization rates. There is nothing statistically similar today to when wed face the shut down earlier in the pandemic. To be even more honest (which you are not), the governor shut down the city. Not the mayor.
Dislike the mayor all you like as she clearly has some significant failings as our mayor. Get over yourself saying she shuttered our city for far less. Get your drama filled facts straight.

Don’t believe I will trust Dr Vaughan or Dr Alston. Have never voted for either and have no plans to start now. Just a political ploy for votes.

Not surprised at the News & Record for incorrectly reporting the date of repealing the mask mandate;
“news” organizations regularly give out false information. Also, the folks who put the captions at the bottom of the TV screen, can’t spell.
Local “news” has a bad habit of reporting about stuff that happened in Timbuctoo that nobody cares about!
So what will she do if mask loving Skip decides to reinstate a mask mandate for Guilford County? Which includes Greensboro?
Mandate Nancy won’t do masks but I’m sure old skippy is chomping at the bit. He is not up for
Reelection. I never submitted from day one and think all but the extreme Covidians are past this hysteria now
Mandate Mayor has imposed youth curfews, general curfews, and other government enforced shutdowas throughout her entire career. The Mandate Mayor had orders shutting down things early in the pandemic severly but stepped back for state and county directives. Also someone should take a look at the value of the cities sidewalks and right ways that have been gifted (permenantly?) to restaurants at taxpayer expense?
Mandate Mayor has a history of being unilateral in shutting down all types of the publics rights and hopefully will be put in line with her promise to not run or serve again at election time.
