The Guilford County Sheriff’s Department had the community looking for two elderly people whose whereabouts were unknown, but now the mystery has been solved and the two are doing just fine.

On Monday, April 11, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department sent out word that the two had been found in southern Virginia in good condition – and the department wished to thank all those in Guilford County who had helped with the search.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, Eugene Bailey and Polley Bailey (pictured above) were both found safely in Mecklenburg County, Virginia on Monday morning.

Before going missing, the two were seen on Saturday, April 9 at about 2:45 p.m. in Jamestown.

An April 11 press release from the Sheriff’s Department stated that they “were believed to be heading to Dillwyn, Virginia in a newer black Chrysler Pacifica, with an unknown registration.”

Mecklenburg County, Virginia, borders North Carolina slightly northeast of the Durham/Raleigh area.

The press release noted that the two were both considered “endangered and suffering from cognitive impairment,” which is the reason a “Silver Alert” was issued in Guilford County and elsewhere.

Eugene Bailey is 64 years old and Polley Bailey is 86.

While Amber Alerts – for missing children who were thought to be abducted – are better known, Silver Alerts are sometimes used to help find missing people who are older and thought to be in need of help.

Silver Alert notifications broadcast relevant information to media outlets and smartphones to help locate older adults who are missing.  The alerts are used often in cases when those missing are suffering from Alzheimer’s, other cognitive disorders or mental disabilities.
