I love the new Street Level column about first-person police stories from officers in our community.

If the City of High Point is so hot to spend $45 million on a multi-use stadium for a yet-to-be-determined baseball team, and to spend all that money without seeking approval from the taxpayers, then maybe they should try to work a deal with HPU for the abandoned Oak Hollow Mall. Then find some private money and equally split the cost to build the stadium. If I read their tax plan correctly, they want to tax businesses around the stadium and use that money to pay for the cost of the stadium. If this is such a great deal for High Point and benefit to the city, why not tax every single taxpayer in High Point instead of punishing the locals near the stadium and forcing them to pay for the darn thing? I bet if everybody was going to be taxed, this latest scheme would fail. When will elected officials stop spending money they don’t have on projects that may or may not work out for the community? If taxpayers have to pay for the project, all taxpayers should be asked to vote on its cost, value and community benefit. Why are politicians afraid to put it to a vote?

Hello, Beep. I’m guessing John Hammer is not a big fan of Hillary Clinton. He and I have that much in common. The difference is us is I wouldn’t waste ink printing her name in the Rhino. Let it go and save the space for something more important. Southern Guilford here. Thank you.

Massacre without a gun. He called himself Reverend Jim Jones years ago. All you had to do was drink his poison Kool-Aid and you would have been put in a body bag along with hundreds of other people. Still think it takes a gun to create a massacre? And as far as animals go, Otis says they’re massacred every day. Just look at the pavement. Thank you.

Concerning this HB2 thing, and anything else for that matter. You never hurt the many to pacify the few. And, you know, I’ve not got a problem with these other people and all that. And, you know, I do what I want to do, and they can do what they want to do. But you never hurt the many to pacify the few. And if they would just quit being so selfish. Thank you.

Here am I on the weekend going through my routine and enjoy the Car Talk guys on NPR and that sort of thing, but suffering through yet again another fundraising drive from NPR. And I tell you, the last two years have changed my opinion entirely. They’re so unabashedly biased through the election, and the debates, and beyond. I will never give them another dime. Never. Public radio, hooey. It’s left-wing radio except for the Car Talk guys.

I saw on the news people from Summerfield holding up signs and banners in protest of any business expansion there in Summerfield. They were protesting to the Summerfield Town Council. Now the people of Summerfield do not want any increase in business or business expansion is what they’re saying. But what they are really saying, and I hope the Town Council can see through them, what they’re really saying is they don’t want any minorities in Summerfield. Because business expansion includes an apartment complex that they don’t want. Now, these same people that are protesting about business expansion, and they’re saying they want to keep Summerfield rural, these are the exact same people who unanimously approved a bond to allow an ABC store in Summerfield.

Yeah, Steely Dan Fan Man. You know, overbooking these airline flights ought to be illegal. You know, seems to me if an airplane has got 250 seats on it, and they sell all those tickets, it doesn’t matter if all 250 people don’t show up. They have sold the tickets. They have made the money. That’s the end of it. If the pilot has to be in Kentucky, and so does the plane, the plane can fly empty. You know? They don’t have to be greedy and double-dip. That’s what it amounts to. But, you know, once you’ve sold all the tickets, you’ve made all the money off that flight, you know?

This is to the left-wing loons out there that can’t get over the fact that Trump won. Calm down. He’s already done more than in this little bit of time he’s been in office than Obama done in eight years. Obama was the worst president that we’ve ever had in this country. And he almost destroyed it. You crybabies, and all you whining left-wing immoral socialist liberals, need to get over that. You can march in the streets. You can raise all the heck you want to. It ain’t going to change anything. All you’re doing is tearing up stuff and costing each of these cities millions of dollars to get out there and protect your behinds. Get over it. You’re not going to change anything. Trump’s president. You ought to look at the things he’s starting to do to help you and your family instead of being such a bunch of left-wing fools. Calm down and get back to being real.

At what point do we stand up to the bullies? At what point do we stand up to the state (for the state is the embodiment of violence)? Let’s suppose you have paid for a ticket on a legitimate US airline to travel from one city to another, but then you are violently pulled out of your seat, dragged down the aisle and beaten up by armed government agents. How would you feel? Would you be asking if this is still America? My empathy for the victim increased exponentially when I watched a video which just emerged which shows the Asian doctor saying, no, I will not leave, as he asserts his right to receive the transportation he has paid for. Surely he is within his rights. Then he becomes the victim of a grossly un-American act of violence against him. Did he not have a valid ticket for travel as he sat quietly and peacefully in his seat? And what was his crime, what wrong had he committed that warranted his violent ejection from the vessel?   What miniscule indiscretion or trivial faux pas even? None at all, except for one, and it is the unpardonable sin for which the consequences are dramatic, violent and devastating in this country. He dared to defy the armed agents of the state. We need more Americans like him, because these acts of violence and intimidation by the state are signals to us all that we are just subjects who must comply with directives and otherwise be productive enough to be taxed. Just sign me off as An Independent Thinker.

I travel all over the state. How come Greensboro has the highest price for gas given that we have this humongous supply of fuel at the tank farm? So, to deliver to the retailer has got to be the lowest cost in the state. I guess the factor that is the only deciding factor is we must have the highest property taxes in the state. Oops, I think we do. I guess that’s why the owners of the gas stations, or the retailers, that own the buildings, have to pay such high property taxes, they have to ask more per gallon. I filled up today in Raleigh at $2.15 a gallon. That’s the liberal side of Raleigh over by Cary. And in Greensboro it’s over 17 cents a gallon on average more expensive than Raleigh.

Sitting here watching the Greensboro City Council meeting. It’s got to be the best comedy TV on TV. It’s absolutely a joke. I don’t know how taxpayers can keep watching. Mayor Vaughan needs to resign. She’s letting the audience run the council. And that’s a shame. I wish Ms. Johnson would run for mayor again. I mean, get your popcorn and your pizza and sit down and watch the best comedy on TV – Greensboro City Council.

Hello. I was calling in regards to every time I read your paper I see people calling and talking about the police. The police are not doing this and the police are not doing that. Well, that falls back on our mayor. And Sharon Hightower, whatever her name is. She’s looking over the police reports and stuff. I think that what we need to do is, people of Greensboro that are going to be voting for the City Council, you need to really start taking a real good look at the people you’re voting for in the City Council. I think we need to do a clean sweep up there. Because, first of all, Sharon Hightower has no business looking at the police reports that are coming in. She’s not certified to do that. And we got a mayor that doesn’t care about what our police is doing other than she just wants to tie their hands so that they don’t do nothing.

Hello. This is for the beeper who complained that the Democrats did not support Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court. I wonder if that caller knows that the Republicans did the same thing to Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, by refusing to even give him a hearing. Obama was elected by the people just as Trump was. And his nominee should have been considered. Trump and the Republicans acted like bullies changing the rules in the middle of the game. This is not the American way. Thank you.

Editor’s Note: Actually, that is the American way. In Congress, the majority rules.

Well, I guess Greensboro is happy now that the NCAA and ACC has come back to Greensboro. I guess that’s a win for North Carolina. But it’s a loss for the women. You know? The Democrats say, oh, we’re for women. We’re for women. Really? I don’t think so. I think that it’s a loss for the women, because it’s letting people know that you can go into a bathroom, or shower stall, or whatever, and you can be whatever you want to be that day. Whatever day it is, you can be whatever you want to be, and you can just walk on in to a bathroom and you can peep into a girl’s bathroom, little girl using a bathroom, or whatever. I think this is wrong. And I think for the state to choose a sport over women, I think that is really going too far.

Why does the City of Greensboro allow the people that distribute circulars, why do they allow them to throw them in our yards so we’ll have to pick them up? Is it just legal littering? It should be illegal.

Regarding Mr. Hammer’s comments in the April 13 Rhino Times concerning all the various taxpayer-funded economic pie-in-the-sky revitalization schemes, and I include Say Yes in that, I think he’s missing the point as to what the real purpose of these various endeavors are. See, it doesn’t matter if they succeed, and they almost never do. But they do succeed at funneling a large amount of tax dollars into the pockets of very few people. For instance, the Greensboro-Randolph Mega Site. Millions of dollars have already been made by a handful of people on that deal. And they’ll continue to make money for a while longer, regardless of whether a phantom automaker ever locates there. The same is true with the Say Yes program. Look at the salaries being paid, not only to their national operators, but the local operators. Doesn’t matter how many scholarships they give out. These people are still making their six-figure salaries.

You have just heard over the CNN News that Bill O’Reilly has been taken off of Fox News Network for good. I’m glad the Murdoch found out that he was detrimental to their network. They need to take off Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh, too.

Secretary Tillerson has just listed a lot of the things that Iran has done. How in the world could President Barack Obama have given them the money that he gave them knowing that they do all these things in sponsoring terrorism? And I understand yesterday or day before, they pulled a missile down the street and had it wrote on there, death to Israel. How he could have given them that money, and how a man that’s got enough education to tie his shoes, and the fifth grade was his senior year, could go and vote a Democrat ticket after seeing what the Democrat president has done to this country is beyond anything I can comprehend. I don’t know no way they can undo this thing. And, without a doubt, we’re going to have trouble with them. And the thing falls directly on the shoulders of the ex-president, Barack Hussein Obama.

So, this black guy is running around here killing white people. Says he hates white people. But has it on the internet, on his Facebook, all his stuff how bad he hates whites. And you find nothing about it, hardly about it, on TV. But, boy, you let some black guys get out here and get pulled over and got drugs in the car, pull a gun on the police, and the police have to throw them to the ground or whatever too hard, somebody videos it, it’s all over TV. And it’s just insane. And if it were the other way around, if it was a white guy running around killing blacks saying how bad he hates blacks, it would be on TV ever since it happened. Every channel. CNN, MSNBC, all these would have it on there.

Yeah, if I hear one more person say shuge and put an S before the word huge, I’m going to pull my hair out. And I don’t even have any. I mean, where did these people go to school at? I went to school a long time ago. There weren’t no S in front of it. There may be now. But there wasn’t then. In fact, you can probably say uge and get away with it without even pronouncing the H for all I know. But you certainly don’t put an S in front of it. Thanks.

I just wanted to add a few things to Scott Yost’s article on the proposed baseball stadium for High Point. City officials, apparently, didn’t bother to tell him that originally this was supposed to be financed 100 percent by private investors. A few months went by, and they decided it would be better if it was a public-private partnership with private investors investing 70 percent, and the taxpayers 30. Then, they decided it would be better if we just went 50-50. Then, it became 70 percent public, 30 percent private. Now, it’s going to be 100 percent taxpayer funded. No private investor wants anything to do with this, and every single thing they have said about what is almost guaranteed to happen if we get a ball, and if the people support, and if everything goes as planned, is all based on nothing but ifs. There are no private investors willing to do anything. In this morning’s High Point Enterprise, they announced they have asked Nido Qubein to get together High Point and lead the effort to convince somebody to actually try to buy a baseball team to put in this baseball stadium.

I believe if the pity party the ungodly ultra-liberal news media has shown since queen Hillary didn’t win the election, like they all reported she would, wasn’t enough, then the recent events on Berkley’s campus in left-wing California should be proof enough that these people are completely beyond any hope. This should put any speculation to rest. Their behavior speaks volumes about today’s Democratic Party and the lunatics that are running it.

When Judgment Day finally comes, there are two professions I certainly would not want to have had in this early life. They are a doctor who performed abortions and anyone who worked at an abortion clinic. By the way, if there are any half-brain ultra-liberals out there who still think that ultra left-wing Planned Parenthood is not a shield, so to speak, for the abortion industry, you are sadly mistaken.
